Re: “Return to Oz

Thanks robbo06. I thought the majority of critics were overly hard on it, as if the film deserved comparisons to The Wizard of Oz. Of course it was never going to measure up to an established classic! But as a modern popcorn movie Oz ain't bad at all.

Re: “Return to Oz

Joe Bardis assessment of the movie is absolutely true. You'll love it. The movie has everything a blockbuster should have and more. Sure, it's great for kids and big kids too. Nice production and great direction. the use of computer imagery is not overdone. I just hope we get more of this sort of entertainment.

Re: “Mama’s house

To my amazement, the audience responded to the scene that Anthony Salveggi hints about and, it was deafening. Scared me too. After all this time of Slasher movies where a woman gets mauled by some lunatic, here is a movie that is just plain spooky. This is what shock theater is all about. Hitchcock was into it big time.

Re: “More Safe than sorry

I was embarrassing myself, but I couldn't help it. The ending was both completely ridiculous and caught me by surprise (in retrospect, I think I was stupid), which was a combustable combination after two hours of Nick Sparks melodrama.

I'm glad your testicles made an appearance at this screening. Had you not laughed, I'd assumed you a eunuch.

Re: “More Safe than sorry

Just thinking you laughed Max Cady-style through the hankie portion of the flick made my afternoon.

Re: “Die Hard 5: Yippee Ki Yuck

Die Hard had four good outings, but you could feel the whole thing running out of gas about the time John McClane started surfing on an F-15 near the end of the last one. We should have all seen this coming …

Re: “Identity Thief stole my will to live

Absolutely no chance in hell that the movie could have been as funny as your headline! Good one!

Thanks, Joe. I totally would've wasted precious time on this.

Re: “McGregor, Watts survive The Impossible

This film will have you on the edge of your seat. I truly don't feel as Philip Booth recommends that the film is incomplete. This really happened to a family as such. Imagine if such a wave were headed for Florida. We'd be sitting ducks.

Re: “Hansel and Gretel is no fairy tale

Nice review Sal. Truly shocking that this one is terrible, considering how awful the trailer, posters, promotional materials and TV ads have been. Oh, wait …

Re: “Spring Arts Preview: Movies

I'm with you on "Top Gun," Joe. I hope this means a 3-D update of "Hot Shots" is on the way. The "wall-eye" scene with Jon Cryer deserves it.

Re: “Mama’s house

Joran -- I remember it getting lukewarm reviews when it came out, and I didn't make a point of seeing it. However, having seen this, I'd be curious to see if how that del Toro effort compares.
