Re: “Surface tension at Domani Bistro

I visited this restaurant by word of mouth, which included similar critiques to this critics. I was not deterred to trying a new unique spot in my neighborhood knowing that it was still a work in progress. I disagree that the critic's review was overly harsh. I'm hoping that his constructive criticisms will be taken seriously by the Chef and Owner instead of getting defensive and holding the line with the current taste profiles that do lack perfection. We had the beer cheese soup, which was watery and a bit odd. The crab "cakes" were divine but small. And the overcooked plain meatballs came with a very bland pasta sauce. I tried the lemon tart and liked but not loved it. It was a bit gooey but the flavors were a nice combination. All in all we had a great night at Domani and we have already spread the word to all of our foodie friends to try it with the knowledge that it is still a work in progress. We are also making a return trip next week to try the mussels and other menu items. We are so happy to have a great new restaurant in Seminole Heights and are excited to see it reach it's potential.

Re: “Surface tension at Domani Bistro

I agree with all the other readers. This is a pretty harsh review that is not deserved. But as Nashville said, it is only one man's opinion. But unfortunately people will take this man's review to heart and might not stop in and miss out on this great treat that Tampa has the chance to experience now! The chef and all the cooks in back have made an eclectic menu come to life that surpasses any other in the area. Yes, some things might need to be "tweaked" but not as far as the menu is concerned. And I'm sure that because it is still a baby, they will have everything resolved soon (such as the patio). The trash should have been excluded from the review. Period. I am a huge fan of Domani and hope that everyone will not be put off by this one immature review. Three stars?? Really??!! How can that even be possible??? Domani's is the underdog right now, but it's about to be on top! Great Job Domani!

Re: “Surface tension at Domani Bistro

I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion, so here is mine. I have been travleing to Tampa on business for the past two years at least twice a month. i have always struggeld with finding a restaraunt with personality, amazing food, and a unbelievable staff. Domani's meets and exceeds my needs and the clients I have brought there in the past six weeks. It really does not concern me how the trash looks in the back of the building, because obviously I am not a garbage collector. As far as the food reviews are concerned, I feel no one shold think their taste buds are going to match up to one person who has decided to write a review. Thats exactly what it is, one persons review. So i suggest you be your on person, and make your on decision. I have clients who run million dollar operations, former star atheletes, and world travelers who appreciate superb food. I bring them all here, and make it a point to fly from Nashville, TN. atleast once a month for the Ravoli. Which in my food critic review, I think is so amazing I have requested to have it shipped to me. I encourage youto not believe what i write, but to find out for yourself. Again your the one who will be dining and enjoying the food. Your focus want be to come and write a article and try to find something wrong. When you visit Domani's personally you will see their is nothing wrong. and for the record, there isnt loads of trash adjacent to the building or patio.

Re: “Surface tension at Domani Bistro

Thanks for your support AMJ & Dave C! We obviously wouldn't be thriving without all of our neighbors encouragement! I truly believe word of mouth goes a long way and the fact of the matter is without any advertisement we continue to get busier and busier so the food must be pleasing more people than not in the Seminole Heights area and that’s what really counts! We love you Tampa! Hope to see you soon!!

Re: “Surface tension at Domani Bistro

I can understand the critique of the entrance and patio area which I'm sure is still work in progress. What I don't understand is the criticism of the food. My wife and I have eaten at Domani several times now and the food has always been stellar and imaginative. The atmosphere is great and by all accounts they serve some very tasty cocktails. I've talked with several patrons and everyone has had rave reviews for the menu and the chef. I think this particular review was overly harsh and I hope it doesn't deter newcomers from giving our great new neighbors a chance to judge for themselves.

Re: “Surface tension at Domani Bistro

Wow... In one word that's all I have to say. I have been going to Domani's since they've opened a little over a month ago, if that. I have slowly been working my way around the menu and have tried everything you have so called "critiqued". All of which were amazing! You're just an idiot to think otherwise. For a place to have just opened up, they have sure knocked myself and many others off their feet with the flavor combinations. Maybe your tastebuds have just been buried in too much bullshit to still be doing your job. The only thing that I agree with is that Domani's will be a contender. It already is.

For all the readers of this article. Don't judge a book by it's cover, or a restaurant by one contradicting review. Go in and try the food for yourself, you wont be giving it just 3 stars.

Bravo Domani, keep it up! Your community supports you!

Re: “Tofu or not tofu?

Thanks Alex! I didn't list this recipe as vegetarian on purpose because of the fish sauce. You can skip it and the tofu marinade will still taste okay. But the fish sauce does add a special kick. Some Asian markets carry vegetarian "fish" and "oyster" sauce.

Re: “Downtown’s bar shift

I hope the beers aren't too "approachable", i.e. Miller Lite, Bud Light, etc. I mean having PBR tall boys is fine and beers like Sierra Nevada produce some really good mainstream beer, but don't go down that other road.
