Missed the show but have seen Rush many times over the years. Your review was poignant and well written. As I read, I felt I was transported to the venue standing in the crowd watching the show. Thank you.
Dave now writes a few songs per album (three on average, maybe). They're good tracks (e.g. "Come Back" 2009) but he and Martin never co-write. I've heard suggestions Martin has helped Dave with a few songs along the way but there's no co-writing per se. That said, the DM's in a good place right now and has proved incredibly durable with all that's happened.
DM!!! Very influential...love it!!!
Depeche Mode! Good selection, Timmy. I can't really pick just one song though... several of them stick.
Glad you like! I would agree that Martin has handled more of the behind scenes duties, and writing, but I bet if you were to ask a casual fan about DM, they would remember Dave and his baritone voice. Martin is no doubt the glue that has kept them together, but Dave is the most renown. Dave is also co-writing most of their material now. And yes, they have so many great songs and albums, it's hard to chose one.
I love Depeche Mode. Good choice, Tim. However, I don't think I'm the only one who feels that Martin L. Gore is the heart, soul, pulse and mastermind of this outfit. He took the reins at a very young age after Vince Clarke jumped ship to form Yazoo and has gotten better and better as a songwriter as the years have progressed. And "Construction Time Again" is my personal and sentimental favorite DM album...but I do love them all!!
What a brilliant honest heart felt review of a brilliant honest heart felt band. Great job by both performer and portrayer.
Hearing Natural Science and Jacob's Ladder back-to-back was just fantastic.
And having the show end with them playing a high school dance in a virtual gymnasium, complete with period-correct Traynor amps set on folding chairs, was just perfect.
Another great review Gabe!!!
Good stuff, Timmy!
Thanks for the info, will update!
Hahaha Porneoke is the stuff of legend now? Lazer Ray is also at Pegasus on Mondays and Fridays without the pOrn. Also not sure I'd call it a Biker Bar... haven't seen many Bikers there in 12 years.
Weekend Tunes! On point, Timmy.
Late start was due to a medical emergency in the audience. Show was amazing. She was amazing.
Great review. LOVED the show. Most of the audience was dodging big raindrops to get through the parking and into the arena, so I think the show start delay was more of a kind consideration to make sure everyone got in and seated without missing the beginning! I was grateful for the late start and the FABulous entertainer that is Bette Midler!!
really had a good time. Not my type of thing but it was my daughters 16 bday and she is a music freak. Will say that drink prices were crazy high. Even i thought getting high would be cheaper. LOL. Loved Ryan Adams and Hozier.
great review...would love to get tickets. I remember the first time I heard boogie woogie bugle boy and was wowed. That was before it was mainstream to be retro...hail to the Bette
Love this glowing review! Excited to see her in Vegas and in LA (where I bought a meet and greet ticket!).
Let's be real. We all know that CL writers mainly write about their friends when it comes to local music; it's obvious from the weekly coverage.
The reviews are more about how things look than how they sound, or any real assessment from an artistic standpoint.
Above - sorry! I earmarked Pretty Lights, then decided to spotlight someone a tad smaller, figuring his headlining status on Friday spoke for itself ;-)
