Great interview! Give the interviewer a full time job! He's great!
The DJ was actually The Castle's very own DJ Tom Gold :)
Fabulous review Gabe! Too bad I missed it.
Back in the 60's, I worked a show called headsup. Believe it or not, we got ratings through the roof. We had no playlist and of course, the corporate got greedy and decided that what we needed to do was get a playlist. Bang! there went our wonderful ratings, Bang,Bang, goodbye ownership of the station and hello Clearvoice communications. See what I mean? Even W.M.N.F. in all it's glory uses a playlist. If people could just get rid of that playlist, it would really change the turf of f.m. radio.
just downloaded the app. pretty cool. got them to play my song fairly quickly... maybe it was a fluke, but happy that family of the year got some local air time.
WMNF is an exception to the rule. And yes, I am well aware of WMNF, I listen to it too. Have you read the paper? CL covers WMNF events and artists touted by the station pretty regularly (the feature in this week's paper, due out on Thursday, is about Tropical Heatwave), as well as indie music well beyond what 'MNF pushes! Point is, WMNF makes it into the paper all the time. This story is more looking at the idea of a corporate radio station finally making a really big change, what it means to the landscape of broadcast radio and what sort of impact it could have on/what it might mean to broadcast radio in the future.
97x aside and with all due respect... Leilani, in regards to your negative comments about broadcast radio, have you not heard of WMNF TAMPA 88.5 FM?
Hell, it's only been around since 1979 and plays a thousand different ARTISTS
a week... not just 500 different "lame ass played a million times already" songs.
Give it a listen. WMNF radio is alive and well and using HD and streaming effectively.
This is great. Obrigado, Morningbell, for always surprising us and making lovely music. ... Hey, did Leilani write it? (Seems so.) Don't see a byline.

Tyler- I can't believe how talented of a writer you are. This article was beautifully written, it almost feels as if I was there. You did a great job of describing the venue, the audiences, and especially the performers. As a friend, I'm so proud, as a critic, I couldn't be more impressed with your talented writing!
