I would've really liked to hear hot in the city (remembered from the silly 21 jump street spin off, "Booger, the cop who couldn't find a kleenex") and maybe his la woman cover or "prodigal son" which was a chart worthy song. Could've done without the monotanous profanity laden mony mony.
But overall, he put on a good show and no complaints. Missed him last year when he came around, but seems like besides his new stuff, he stuck with the same oldie/goodies.
Also, the opening act, London Souls were imo, really good - afterwards, I listened to their recorded stuff online and was disappointed that like several other newer bands, sounded so much better live, which is not usually how it works. Must be a bunch of worthless sound engineers making a mess of people's music these days.
Duran Duran - such an underrated band for their musical talents and songwriting. The band that critics love to hate. But they get the last laugh as they are still writing new material (with exception to their nod to their own influences with thank you) instead of resting on their laurels and being a has-been 80s band doing the reunion circuit like so many of their early peers.
It's a different scene today though where attention spans rival a gnat's and there's so much MORE of well, just everything that it's hard to stand out for very long for just about anyone.
Ready for the weekend, Tim! Good tunes as always.
Duran Duran! Great group, Tim. Come Undone is the song I remember best from them... Good stuff!
I agree...hearing "Love Like Fire" on the last tour was amazing..never thought I would hear that live so I am thankful for that. Thanks for the input...and, for the record, I love your screen name. If I got to hear that song (either part) I'd be ecstatic!!
Thoughtful, astute review. I saw Billy in California earlier this year, and it was a dynamite performance, very fun. But another deep cut or two would have been welcome! Kiss Me Deadly, Night of the Cadillacs or Don't Need a Gun would be my choices.
I was there. Great show, just made sure to stay clear of the mosh pit. What a crowd.
29 weekends and counting, Tim! Keep up the solid work.
Both set some incredibly high hip hop standards in the short periods they were alive & fruitful, and both are personal faves...
I have had many late night 2pac vs. Biggie debates. The consensus seems to be that 2pac was intellectual, earnest, in your face, while Biggie had a more laid back attitude and heavy commercial appeal. Ironic considering the East-West vibe stereotypes and the sides that each repped.
When I'm feeling self righteous or ornery or need to get my badass mojo pumping, I listen to 2pac. When I want to get my dance face, booty grind on, I hit the Biggie.
Last week was Biggie and I said he was in my top 3, Tim. 2Pac is also in my top 3. Enough said. :)
And I mentioned that It may have been where I was standing, but I could barely hear her vocals, and I wasn't alone. 60 min show for $30+ isn't impressive in my opinion.
I was directly in front and the sound was great. I heard her just fine too. And she was moving the whole time! I dont know how youre going to complain about a band playing their new album in full. Barely any other bands do that. 15 out of 21 songs that they have is a great deal!
Filling up my weekend with tunes as always, Tim. Good stuff!
Biggie! In my top 3 for sure, Tim. Easily could be the best of all time. I liked just about everything he did so hard to pick just one tune.
Struck a cord with me this week, I'm in the zone now 😄
Love the song by Duran Duran! They still rock after all these years...
He'll always be Animal to me...one of the most genuinely nice people with Energizer Bunny-like enthusiasm and a deep belief in the intrinsic goodness of humanity. We can all learn from this dude's example.
When it's time for the weekend, Timothy Boyson delivers the tunes. Ready for the weekend!
Vip section was a joke. Promoters must be green at putting on shows and failed to use social media effectively to communicate to concert goers. Many people left the show and didn't come back as they assumed it was being cancelled.
It could have been even worse but I am glad I didn't pay full price since I missed out on two othe three acts I wanted to see - HJ and C+C who was finishing up their last song by the time we got back to the venue after the rain cleared up.
