TIME mag bails on Assange, hails Mark Zuckerberg as Man of The Year a year past his prime date
The Tea Party as a group came in 2nd, and WikiLeaks Julian Assange came in third. Speculation was that either Zuckerberg or Assange would be named by the mag as the Person of the Year, so at least Time doesn't have to deal with complaints from Joe Lieberman and other moralists that they're aiding and abetting a "terrorist" in New York Congressman Peter King's words.

Will "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" be voted on this year, or anytime before 2013?
One thing is certain: Every day more parts of the liberal establishment that strongly supported Barack Obama are losing faith in the president. The LGBT community, and others, will feel extremely let down if there isn't a vote this month, or the law doesn't change under Obama, since he campaigned hard for its repeal.

Nelson to Obama: I can't support Kerry-Lieberman energy bill
Senator Nelson in Florida isn't the only member of that august body who doesn't want any drilling near his home state. Today, six west coast Senators (California's Barbara Boxer and Diane Feinstein, Oregon's Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, and Washington state's Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray) filed a bill that would ban offshore drilling on the west coast. That's even after Obama has declared that there is nothing doing there until 2017.

New Senate energy bill would allow Florida to opt-out of drilling up to 75 miles from their shore
According to the Associated Press, which obtained a copy of the proposed energy bill last night, it would allow states directly affected by offshore drilling to veto drilling plans of nearby states if they can show significant negative effects from an accident.

Responding to critics, Eric Holder says Miranda protections should be eased for terror suspects
For the first time, Holder said the administration was looking at some "flexibility", on giving terrorists Miranda rights, saying, " The public safety exception comes from a case called Quarles that dealt with a -- the robbery of a -- of a supermarket. We're now dealing with international terrorism. And if we are going to have a system that is capable of dealing in a public safety context with this new threat, I think we have to give serious consideration to at least modifying that public safety exception. "
