The Florida U.S. Senate race continues to look like another Bill Nelson victory forthcoming in November 2012. The current crop of candidates, which includes Senate President Mike Haridopolos and former State Rep. Adam Hasner remains rather unaccomplished and uninspiring.

Buckhorn, Ferlita headed to run-off for Tampa Mayor
The first round of balloting in the Tampa mayoral race is over. Much to everyone’s surprise, Dick Greco the presumed frontrunner not only didn’t finish first, he didn’t finish second either. Note to future candidates for any public office: leave Greg Truax off the payroll if you want to win.

In fewer than 24 hours, the much maligned Republican Party of Florida will have a new chairman. Regardless of who wins, the victor needs to show some leadership. While John Thrasher did an able job giving the party some much-needed credibility in the post-Greer days, he failed on all fronts in providing the party with the substantive reforms it needs.

For Dick Greco the future is about the past
Dick Greco lumbers out of his car for breakfast at Patches just off Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa, and within seconds he’s politicking in the parking lot. For Greco, politicking means talking to people and making them feel good about themselves. He asks people about their family, and he likes to talk about the old days. Greco is also known to call the ladies “honey” and even refer to men as “baby,” as in, “How you doin’, baby?”

So since Snitker hasn’t raised money, to the media, he’s a non-factor. But the media is often wrong. Remember that guy Mike McCalister who got 10 percent in the G.O.P. Primary in Florida’s gubernatorial race? He didn’t poll well or raise much money either. The day after the election a lot of media had egg on their face. It appears they are slow learners…

Mark Sharpe is a Reagan Republican
Burgin, who is a nice guy whom I consider a friendly acquaintance made a calculated move based on the assumption that Sharpe is vulnerable for two reasons: 1) because Sharpe has been a strong advocate for the local option transportation improvement penny sales tax; and, 2) because Sharpe is an incumbent in a year when voters appear to be very anti-incumbent.

Rubio’s American Express card Exposed
While Rubio demonstrated poor judgment in using an RPOF provided Amex card for personal expenses, it should be noted he probably did not break the law. Further poor judgment was shown when Rubio failed to own up to the issue and release this bad news on his own terms, prior to his political adversaries showing his hand. Politics 101 dictates if you have bad news and you know your opponent knows your bad news, you release it on your own terms and you do it early. Marco’s arrogance and inexperience got in the way of following this dictum. Or did he think Jim Greer and company were nice guys who would never expose Marco’s card problems?

Known for their environmental attacks, sprawl creation and developer-friendly wide stance, the Gang of Five has recently controled the Hillsborough County Commission. That is until it's weakest link was picked off Tuesday by a citizen army fighting for a respectable candidate.
