Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio on water bill situation outrage- "I'm ultimately responsible"
Speaking with CL this morning, Mayor Pam Iorio said she was upset that members of her administration were being criticized, and said as the leader of the city, the buck stops with her. "I have a great staff and they work very hard and they're excellent public servants. And if people should be unhappy with anyone they should be unhappy with me. I'm the head of city government, and I'm ultimately responsible."

Tampa citizens irate about water bills — and City Hall's failure to address the problem
Tampa Water Department head Brad Baird was the man of the hour, as he tried to explain to the council and the public both in the audience and watching on the city's cable access government channel just what has happened. Actually, he didn't do that.

Lisa Montelione newest candidate for Tampa City Council - running in District 7
Regarding the failed transit tax, she supported the measure, but says there was mass confusions amongst the electorate that was never a good sign. "When you read the threads on Facebook," she says, "some people thought the tax was just for light rail, but it was for roads, it was for buses, HART would have benefited. People were confused about whether it was light rail or high speed rail."

Tampa City Council goes on offense on why they're not prepared to place an ordinance banning panhandling on March 1 ballot
Even New Tampa council member Joe Caetano, who has previously proposed that the council vote to put the measure on the ballot, said the board should do something proactive, and not "subcontract" the issue out to the public to vote on it. He said it was important to do something for the homeless, specifically to find housing for them.

Tampa City Council defends itself against charges it's doing nothing on panhandlers
Council Chairman Thomas Scott said he took exception to people threatening him for not supporting an ordinance banning soliciting at street medians. "I don't like to be threatened or intimidated, he said. "When someone tells me what they can do, and somebody's going to vote against you...I don't like that."

Tampa & Hillsborough county officials discuss possible pandhandling ordinance
But the most dramatic statements came from Connie Farrington with the I Am Hope Cafe , a faith based group helping the homeless with food and clothing based in Brandon. She lambasted the committee, saying that transitional housing "is the only way that we are going to get big numbers of people off the street."

Tampa Tribune takes on Tampa Police Union
The fact that crime is down dramatically in Tampa over the past 6 years (46%), and especially in a hot spot like Ybor City (over 70%), is an outstanding fact that cannot be overemphasized that the Department, under Steve Hogue and now Jane Castor, has been doing an extremely effective job. But the Trib calls the union "insatiable", and accuses the PBA of refusing to sacrifice during these tough times.
