After six same-sex couples filed a lawsuit seeking the right to marry in Florida, Attorney General Pam Bondi said she’d oppose the fight to overturn the state’s ban on gay marriage at the annual Associated Press Legislative Planning Summit in Tallahassee last week.
"If I am asked, yes [I will intervene] because it is my obligation as attorney general,'' she told reporters. "This is a constitutional amendment that voters passed by 60-something percent. My job is to defend that."
The couples filed their lawsuit in the Miami-Dade County two weeks ago, seeking to overturn the state’s 2008 ban on gay marriage. The ban was passed in a 62 percent vote.

A trio of Florida mayors, including St. Petersburg’s Mayor Rick Kriseman, has written a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin criticizing the country’s stringent anti-gay laws prior to the start of this month’s Winter Olympics.
The letter reads:
As mayors of Florida cities with Russian sister city counterparts, we are writing to address a matter of great importance that affects the lives of millions of Americans and Russians alike. In June 2013 you signed into law a measure that enforces a ban upon homosexual ‘propaganda’ in Russia. Thus it appears that citizens and visitors to Russia that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered [LGBT] will be subject to discrimination, fines and potential incarceration.
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and Tallahassee Mayor John Marks are the other two co-signors of the letter.
Disney will host an LGBT event for families this summer. Family Outfest will take place July 1-7.
The group’s director, Gabrielle Shulruff, said, “We are just parents. You know, it doesn’t matter who you are or what your sexuality is, regardless, you are people and people with families like anybody else.”
