Welcome to Monday! It was not a great weekend for some.

FRIDAY, MARCH 16:

A 20-year-old Winter Haven woman has moved on to California after auditioning for American Idol in Savannah. Yup — American Idol is still a thing.

Florida Governor Rick Scott signed a new state budget into law that critics say shortchanges public education by allocating too large a percentage of funds earmarked for education to school safety instead. He also vetoed $64 million in stuff he deemed unnecessary. Well at least the kids will be able to sit there learning nothing in comparative security.

Do you think one vote never changed anything? Five votes did in Madeira Beach, where a newcomer edged out an experienced political incumbent by that razor-thin margin. Will it change anything? Who knows? I just think it's neat, that's all.

SATURDAY, MARCH 17:

Once again, the City of Tampa colored the Hillsborough River green for St. Patrick's Day. Crazy.

A performer in Cirque du Soleil's Volta show that just wrapped in Tampa died after falling during a performance. Our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and coworkers.

SUNDAY, MARCH 18:

And finally, a 19-year veteran of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office was fired for DUI after a disturbance led to her being discovered driving in reverse while "honking the horn erratically." That's... that's not a good look.
