✔️ Game of Thrones w/Ramin Djawadi Pronunciation aside, it’s a wonder that Ramin Djawadi (“ra-meen java-dee”) isn’t a household name. The 44-year-old’s music is the soundscape for Westworld, Amazon’s upcoming Jack Ryan series and, most famously, Game of Thrones. It’s the latter project that brings Djawadi to town, as a live stage show updates last year’s theatrics (the GoT live show hit Amalie Arena last March) in the hopes of getting fans excited for the eighth and final season of the hit HBO series. Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience at the Amalie: Binge-watching writ large
Pig Former KMFDM member Raymond Watts recently went sober, and it’s resulted in five years of impressive productivity that’s given fans Pig’s most recent album, Risen, on which Watts collaborates with a host of icons from the industrial genre, including En Esch, Tim Sköld (Marilyn Manson), Z. Marr (Combichrist), Ben Christo (Sisters of Mercy) and Mark Thwaite. Watts even found time to record a cover of KC and the Sunshine Band’s “That’s the Way (I Like It)” with adult actress turned singer Sasha Grey. (Orpheum, Ybor City) INFO
Chris Lake Chris Lake is living large right now, and the U.K. producer deserves it. Most dance music fans know his recent hits (“Losing My Mind,” “Operator”), but Lake has been heating up the floor for over a decade now. EDM disciples also owe Lake some gratitude for helping play a part in landing Deadmau5’s single, “Faxing Berlin” on BBC Radio 1 nine years ago (Mr. Mau5 has said that he was close to quitting music until that moment). (The Kennedy, Tampa) INFO
Coco Montoya w/Matt Walker Albert Collins protegé Coco Montoya brings his fiery, hard-edged take on blues guitar to Ybor City in support of his latest Alligator Records release, Hard Truth, where he gives fans 11 tracks that shuffle, simmer and bare Montoya’s soul. Here Come the Mummies Yes, the identities of the individual Mummies are under wraps, literally, but this is the rare novelty act that actually gets props for its brand of undead funk-rock. Dig up the Nashville-based band’s 2002 debut (Terrifying Funk from Beyond the Grave) or its follow-up (Everlasting Party, released in 2003), and you’ll see that these guys are kinda, sorta, scary good. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater) INFO
Wilder Sons w/King Complex/Flipturn The frenetic pace of Wilder Sons' new single, “Keeps Me Up,” should play a nice foil to the simmering sounds of masked rock trio King Complex and Fernandina Beach indie-rock five-piece Flipturn, which is supporting its 2018 EP, Citrona, during this free show at one of St. Petersburg’s best breweries. (Green Bench Brewing, St. Petersburg) INFO
Other Body w/Witchbender/Permanent Makeup/Vacancy/Clang! A trio of Bay area bands — Clang!, Permanent Makeup and Vacancy — make a very noisy welcome wagon for weirdo Orlando punk-rock band Witchbender, which is supporting a wild 2018 LP, Crush, at this show where Other Body (a Miami band formed in the wake of Magic City acts like Teepee and Lil Daggers) works through its own punishing live set to top the bill. (Lucky You Tattoo, St. Petersburg) INFO
✔️ TFO on the Go The Florida Orchestra’s two-day assault on non-traditional Bay area venues starts on Friday with small ensemble gigs at St. Petersburg’s Museum of Fine Arts, Tampa Armature Works and Tampa International Airport. Don’t worry if you miss those gigs due to work, however, since two reed trios will be at the Dunedin Fine Art Center and Tarpon Springs’ SPC campus the next day. More information is available at floridaorchestra.org.
✔️ Open Tab w/Sam E Hues/DJ Betty Dawl Early arrival (and ID, it’s a 21 & up show) is suggested for this free concert and art show happening on Franklin Street. A slew of visual artists will have work on display, but the sounds will be dictated by DJ Betty Dawl, who spins before and after Sam E Hues plays songs from Ghost I Remember Loving (his ridiculously nuanced collection of nu-age hip-hop) and the album’s forthcoming follow-up, which is in the works and in the hands of up-and-coming producer Maxx Forman. (CAVU, Tampa) INFO
✔️ Adult. w/Black Plague/TWINS It’s been two decades since Detroit wife-husband duo Adult. emerged from the Motor City’s electro-techno scene, but this just might be Nicola Kuperus and Adam Lee Miller’s Bay area debut. Fitting, since it’s happening at a venue that’s poised to finally sustain life at a much-beleaguered University of Tampa area haunt where another indie fave (Jacuzzi Boys) is set to play on Tuesday. Bonus points because Rob Halford-approved, gay-dance, leatherbound weirdo Raws Schlesinger opens the show as Plack Blague. (Hooch and Hive, Tampa) INFO
