If you want to go to the Florida Strawberry Festival with a child or young adult, today is the day to do it: As part of Kids' Day, all children through high school age get in free.
In honor of National Cheese Fondue Day today, April 11, The Melting Pot restaurants are extending a cheesy good offer: free cheese fondue from April 11-14!
"We are leveraging a nationally recognized day (April 11) to introduce our brand to new guests, show our appreciation to returning guests and share the unique dining experience we offer," said Cindy Haynes, senior vice president of marketing for Front Burner Brands (restaurant management company that houses The Melting Pot).
The Florida Strawberry Festival means plenty of strawberries, of course. But theres a lot more than fruit to draw you to the annual event, now in its 76th year. And on Wednesday, theres an even better reason for active military and first-responders to attend: Free admission.
Tampa Bay beer lovers rejoice: Beer Club is back in action for another season and doing the rounds at Tampa Bay area bars every month, from August through December.
Blue Moon is the new sponsor and will be providing a variety of different craft brews to sample.
This season's inaugural Beer Club event, "Back to (Beer) School", will be held at The Dubliner in South Tampa on Tuesday, August 24th, from 6-8 p.m. The featured beers available for sampling will be from Blue Moon Brewing Company and Brooklyn Brewery.
Now that World Cup madness is over and the sound of vuvuzelas is finally fading into just a
painful headache of the past, turn your attentions to our own local soccer club, the Tampa Bay Rowdies. This week's game is on Thirsty Thursday, where beers are just a buck and you can root against our Rochester rivals. fctampabay.com. Let's be honest: we're all itching for a chance to dig out our box of '80s gear -- you know, the one hiding scrunchies, leg warmers in every shade of neon,
and stirruped leggings for the ladies; acid-wash jeans, puffy vests and hair band tees for the guys -- and Saturday's Back to the Future Pub Crawl and scavenger hunt is the perfect excuse. Form a team of 2 to 5 dudes and dudettes, and hit up Kelly's Chic-A-Boom Room, the Dunedin Brewery, Jolli Mon's Grill and more in search of the required items -- the first team back to The Boxcar wins. Proceeds benefit the Family Network on Disabilities. fndfl.org/pubcrawl. Sat., July 17, 7 p.m., The Boxcar, 349 Main Street, Dunedin, $50 per team. The Rays Watch Party is the next best thing to going out to the ballgame (since this ones in NYC, its definitely friendlier on the wallet, too). See the action on an ginormous screen set up right on the beach while the 620 WDAE The Sports Animal guys commentate the whole thing play by awesome play. Itll be like Crawford is hitting homers right into your frozen margarita. You can also get all your deliciously artery-clogging gametime snacks like grilled burgers and chicken sandwiches, wings and bratwurst with sauerkraut (and, of course, the brews will be flowing) -- all without missing an entire inning in line at the concession stand. Sunday's game is against the hated New York Yankees. 1:05 p.m. Sun., July 18., Tradewinds Island Grand Resort, 5500 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach, free, 727-367-6461. --Franki Weddington

In honor of National Ice Cream Month, Tampas Museum of Science & Industry is treating guests to free samples of Blue Bells newest flavor, Caramel Kettle Crunch -- sweet and salty kettle corn, smooth ice cream and a swirl of caramel. Fear not, vanilla lovers, because they'll be serving that, too. In addition to the free doses of brain freeze, museum-goers get a chance to learn about the Science of Freezing as MOSIs InterActors demonstrate cryo freezing using liquid nitrogen (a word to the wise: don't stick your hand in it). calendars for. Instead of languishing in the blessed (and ungodly expensive) air conditioning of your house/apartment/car/friends couch, get out for some fun in the form of Christmas in July, which screens at the Beach Theatre this Saturday. (You didnt think I would ask you to adventure out of the AC, did you?)The Preston Sturges comedy classic is an oldie but a goodie, and best of all, its a freebie. Plus, even though its really about a guy whos been duped into believing he won 25 grand and not a freak summer blizzard (a gal can dream), at least it conjures up memories of cooler weather. If the cash you save on movie admission is burning a hole in your pocket, you can also brave the heat to check out St. Pete Beachs sales extravaganza, taking over the streets just outside the theater, where youll find door prizes, discounts, and live music. 10 a.m. Sat., July 17, Beach Theatre, 315 Corey Ave., St. Pete Beach, coreyave.com. --Franki Weddington
Welcome to On the Radar, where we preview upcoming events to mark your calendars for. Today's the day to proudly don your black and white spots, furry ears, cowbells and look udderly ridiculous for free grub. Two years ago NASA offered to send your name to the moon, in a campaign that eventually filled the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) with 1.6 million names submitted by the public. Now NASA is upping the ante and offering to put your "Face in Space." That's right, folks, your picture could be put onto two of the remaining space shuttle missions and launched into orbit. And to make this tasty piece of cake even sweeter, it only takes three easy steps.
