While I like many of the places on your list, very few are actual brew pubs. A brew pub by definition brews it's own beer on the premisis.
Its also the quality of the pork, theres a big differance in taste when you buy pork from Cisco compared say to a local pork ranch. Wish these joints would step up their game with better quality meats, then they would not have to use so much BBQ sauce & rub all the time.
guess you haven't read the rib cook-off results or whatever off of a year or so ago. or cl article within the past couple issues
you've picked 4 of the well, lets say non-winners
text me and i'll tell you were to go for ribs (not babyback) jimbo's, wholly smoke, jaymerQ
Good news for Thuy Café fans… Thuy Le opened up her kitchen to 10 News giving us a full tour. We’ll be showing the cleaned up kitchen Friday night!
The only real rat in this story is Zimmer.
Last time I was at Als the ribs were dry.. Alot of these spots I question the source fo their meats, cause none of them ever tell you.
What a great story they have. So glad you decided to tell it!
Where did you get your hands on it? I tried calling around and no one seemed to stock it.
I completely agree with this review. I would have loved this beer to be a porter and allow a little sweetness to mix with the smokey flavor. I was extremely excited to try this beer and was disappointed because it wasn't the heaven in a bottle that I thought it would be.
whats wrong with reeses cups?
WD may indeed have some of the world's best chocolates - rivaling and surpassing most of what you could find in all of europe!
Great review and great chocolate! (Oh yeah, and the photo's not too bad either.;)
I love the upbeat article on Florida Brewing Company, but disagree with one observation. To characterize Florida Lager as a "gateway" beer is so unfair. Florida Lager is an excellent "craft" beer that is one of the best of its style brewed in America. Any craft beer enthusiast would welcome drinking this tasty, well-balance lager for what it is and never wish they were drinking something else. I think it is one perfect Florida beer -- perfect for the hot days and nights and perfect for pairing with the popular Floribean cuisine.
between this and the chateaubriand at Berns - some of the 2 best last meat meals going.
No, that's not the deal. The original owners told me that the new owner stated intentions to keep everything the same, including the movie screenings, which had been going on for 5 and a half years, during which time Aldona could've easily researched what was showing. All those years building up a community of alt.music and important documentaries, and now false intentions lead to Disney family fare and "easy listening". What an ass.
OK.......Here is the real deal, since all you haters have not bothered to do your research......including CL which mispelled the owners name.....should be called Creative Oafing. Anyone who has bothered to investigate will come to find out that Cafe Bohemia sold the building and business to a new owner who has no intentions of leaving the name or the business the same. The leaving of the name is only temporary while the place is undergoing renovations and a new logo and image are created. Do you people really think that if a business sells and/or closes its doors the new owners have an obligation to keep it the same????? Hello!!!! Free Enterprise!!!!! America!!!! If you are sad that Cafe Bohemia is gone, mourn and get over it! It was the decision of Matt and Bonnie to sell and get out of the business and we should respect their choice as well as the new owners descision to open something new there.......would you be as angry if he opened a clothing or furniture store in its place?? He has every right to do with it as he pleases as do all of you if you choose to go into business. By the way if you are affiliated with St Pete for Peace I would have to say that you are not very peaceful people. The owner owns numerous other businesses in the area and frequents stores and restaurants just like all of us so to say he does not support the community just because he decided to open another type of business there is ignorant.
You missed the Dunedin House of Beer, very dog friendly!
Easy listening? Easy barfing!!
I understand that the new owners must re-build their clientele up from the ground, but this was a drastic and bad move on their part. Too much, too soon. And I agree with those that are saying this is a loss to musicians and artists, but more specifically, it was never the "alternative rock" scene that Bohemia supported, it was the underground punk, noise and experimental artists that called it home. The clarion call for a new "hipster coffeehouse hangout" is a valid one, but I feel that it's the punk/underground movement (that is so important to every city's culture) that's been truly hung out to dry.
This is very unfortunate and truly a sad day for the people of St Pete who worked so hard to develop a tight-knit community and a scene that wasn't afraid to express themselves or think progressively. Matthew Neal & co. provided such a delightful and refreshing outlet for kids/musicians/artists/writers who were otherwise confined to hanging out at each other's houses. Lou Aldano just doesn't get it and I wouldn't set foot in his bourgeois, uninspired, banal, hackneyed noshery for anything. There has always been a special place in my heart for Cafe Bohemia and Lou Aldano hasn't the slightest clue of what he is about to take on. My heart aches for this travesty.
