i completely agree the costume contest was rigged no food n bathroom 40$ for me n my husband to stand in a hole in front of a stage didnt stick around left ybor city 30 minutes later never going back there
Where were you sitting? Your review is a bit negative sounding to say the least.
We were sitting front and center and if anything at times the vocals were buried under the music.
Based on the huge age range with half well into their 50s, i dont blame people for wanting to take a seat at times. A lot of older folks bodies arent what they used to be.
I am only 42 and am normally very unanimated during any concert- something that I notice a lot of other musicians do. We get too into the music in our heads.
Anyway, I digress.
If Their new song 'while we we're young' is a taste of what their next album has in store I think it is going to be fantastic. Has hit (albeit adult contemporary catagory now) written all over it.
When people all around me weren't enthusiastically clapping hands and tapping feet when sitting, they were standing. Including during all the old covers near the end of the main set.
All in all it was a great concert in a great hall.
Love that album. It still sounds great and according to this outstanding review, Huey also still sounds good. Good job!
Excellent review, sorry I missed the concert.
I was fortunate to see Bonnie Raitt. Her stage presence was heart warming and her music was actually better than studio recordings. What an amazing woman! She seems to have ageless energy and Genuine affection for her fans is refreshing. The best performer I've ever witnessed.
loved it! Well worth the $$.
Coastline was also held in West Palm Beach, on the following day (Sun., Nov. 10).
what the other indie music festival in Florida you are referring to?
Due to a major wreck on I-4, it was impossible for me to get to the show in time to catch Gary, unfortunately. The original intent was to review both acts.
i heard NIN kinda sucked. i would be more excited for Gary these days.
Excellent review ..very informative... great personal touch..
Yes - it was that good indeed
This article/review was for the most part wack. the writer obviously did not get the humor of the jokes J.cole was saying during his intermissions. the rant about jordan and the 20 pages and all that was to mock people who stereo type young rich black men and automatically assume they are rappers or athletes. Duh. and also, who wants to see J.cole on a stage with nothing but a DJ? Thats 2 years ago buddy, the show was fluid, had a storyline and was very entertaining. To even downplay the hype of this show a little bit is a slap in the face to both Wale and J. Cole. Bas did his thing early, and came back out for a feature with J. Cole which had the crowd surprisingly hype as the single is underground. the show was EXCELLENT! Compared to past shows, you can definitely see the groth in J. cole both as an artist and a performer. Lame article though.....guess thats why theres no other comments. No one really gave 2 poopies how you felt.
great show, awesome review!
Here's a link to our online listings: http://cltampa.com/tampa/EventSearch?event…
Here's a link to our upcoming concerts page, in which we select the most worthy shows to be featured each week (and this runs in print, have you seen the paper?): http://cltampa.com/tampa/Category?oid=2010…
Also, if you read the paper, you will notice that EVERYTHING in the music section is an advance for something that is upcoming; online content includes follow-ups/reviews/after-the-facts as well. In other words, online reviews and the like are supplementary content to what we have in the paper.
You do realize that they post upcoming concerts and events regularly on the music section right? In fact, I even wrote about this as an upcoming event the week prior. Also it doesn't take much of an effort to look up local places calendars.
Why in the world do you write concert reviews? Why not get ahead of it and let us know who IS GOING TO come to town instead of reviewing stuff that already happened and we can't attend even if we want to.
I was at the show and loved it. Great insightful review
As usual, great review, very well written.
