The Bay area could walk away from the Sweetest Bakery in American Contest victorious. Well, with some help from its residents, that is.

Organized by Dawn Foods, which supplies ingredients and products to bakers around the world, the annual competition kicked off March 1 and runs until July 31. There are a bunch of Florida confectionaries in the running, including Moreno Bakery in Brandon, West Tampa’s Alessi Bakery, and — somehow — the Brandon Costco on Causeway Boulevard.

To each their own, I guess.

The Sweetest Bakery in America Contest is meant to showcase neighborhood bakeries while boosting their local and national recognition. Voters can chip in by casting a ballot once per day either online or while patronizing their favorite contender(s); Costco, Moreno and Alessi should have their own ballot boxes in-store.
