This Saturday in live music: Legendary Shack Shakers, Southern Soul Assembly + more

A look at concert highlights for this Sat., Feb. 6.

It's a nice looking night for quality concert enjoyment, with three notable highlights and several more worth mentioning on this Sat., Feb. 6. Breakdown below.

The Legendary Shack Shakers The Bay area’s seen a tear of fine rockabilly tours since the launch of the New Year and this Legendary Shack Shakers date adds another one to the books. The gothic Americana rockers powered by the golden drawl and harmonica chops of frontman J.D. Wilkes clocked two decades in 2015 and released their first new outing in five years, The Southern Surreal, which comes replete with a spoken word appearance by Billy Bob Thorton in “The Dog Was Dead.” Support in two vintage indie rock bands from Orlando, The WildTones and The Woolly Bushmen. (Crowbar, Ybor City)

Southern Soul Assembly Billed as “An Evening of Southern Songwriters in the Round,” Southern Soul Assembly marshals the talents of four finely seasoned artists each with a style hewn from the blood and muck of their respective regions. JJ Grey, the longtime leader and founder of Mofro, doses his crunchy Jacksonville swamp roots rock in R&B, funk and gospel sounds, while husky-crooning New Orleans troubadour Anders Osbourne brings heavier blues groove persuasions. Louisiana howler Marc Broussard pushes bayou soul, and North Mississippi Allstars guitar slinger and slider Luther Dickinson lays down Delta-fueled rock n’ roll fire. The four trade off performances and play the occasional collab during this intimate engagement. (Capitol Theatre, Clearwater)

The Elements: A Celebration of Hip Hop The four main elements of hip hop culture are rapping or emceeing (oral), turntablism or DJing (aural), b-boying (physical) and graffiti art (visual), with knowledge (consciousness) making its way into recent conversations. This free Saturday night showcase promises an emphasis on the elements with spins by DJ Spaceship, performances by Hyfa Tha Prospect, Rook Da Rukus, Jack Fletcher, Ladi G, and the NICE Collective, and a special guest set by Shaka Zulu Kingz. (Fubar, St. Petersburg)
