I don't know about y'all, but my interest in Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival — an inaugural festie held on a camp site near Florida’s Lake Okeechobee in March and smelling suspiciously like the now-defunct Langerado — was already piqued after its initial lineup announcement featured such personal faves as Compton rap talent Kendrick Lamar, experimental hip-hop collab Big Grams (featuring Big Boi and Phantogram), soulful heartthrob Miguel, indie psych makers Youth Lagoon, and several quality electro music makers (Bonobo, Shpongle, Lotus, Four Tet), not to mention big name talent like Skrillex and Mumford and Sons, among many others.
The second wave of confirmed artists included Bassnectar, The Avett Brothers, Odesza, White Denim and Dungen, upping the ante of quality ever further. But the talent revealed in a press release today has cemented my desire to actually make the trip down south to attend the three-day affair.
Legendary Led Zeppelin leader Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters tops the fresh lineup adds, and other note-worthies include the (recently reunited and thank goodness for it) cheeky rock band Ween and soul-grooving hitmakers Daryl Hall & John Oates,.
House and techno artists perform on the festival's dusk-til-dawn "Jungle 51" stage, among them, Damian Lazarus, Virginia, Marcel Fengler, Anton Zap, Voiski, John Acquaviva, rRoxymore, Dj Three, Andrew Grant, Max Jacobson, Jeffrey Scott, Brian Cid, Orazio, Chris Nitti, Driss, Rambo Springsteen and more TBA. Other new Okeechobee highlights include the "Miguel PoWow! With Very Special Guests," produced by Bonnaroo SuperJams organizer Paul Peck. In the release, he explains, "With PoWoW!, we're cooking up an historic concert, the kind where you don't know who is going to walk out on stage or what will happen next ... Miguel is a supreme talent and we're working closely with him to defy and exceed all expectations. The idea is to create a show that we personally want to experience together with fans at Okeechobee. We're going to invite fans to submit their ideas for PoWow! to us on Facebook and Twitter, and if we use an idea, we're going to hook up those fans in a cool way."
The Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival takes place March 4-6, 2016, just north of Lake Okeechobee. Three-Day GA passes ($259.50 until December 10, then $279.50) and VIP Packages are on sale now, and payment plans are available until December 17.
