Tonight in live music: Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band at Crowbar

The name reflects a brash cheekiness that matches colorful bumpin’ music with definite P-Funk appeal. Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band does indeed dish out deep, nasty, funkadelia but songs like “Trunk Fallin' Off” off 2013’s Onward! introduces old school rap while “Lovin’” turns up the grooving modern soul and vintage R&B. Keys-playing, keytar-wielding Mary Frances – who has a silky-soulful vocal quality – and bass-bumpin’ emcee Al Ingram lead the ensemble, which also includes tight, talented players on guitar, trombone and drums. All Good Tuesdays carries on as planned after their Crowbar performance. Local jazz-funk five-piece Serontonic opens and All Good Tuesdays with Soft Rock Renegades carries on as planned afterwards. 8 p.m., Crowbar, Ybor City, free admission.
