Tonight in live music: Black Pussy at Crowbar (yes, it's a band)

Amid the various genre classifications on their bandcamp page, Black Pussy (a tricky name to Google without getting porn and allegedly influenced by the real name of the Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar") lists ‘stoner pop’ and ‘weedgazer,’ both apropos self-stylings of their Portland-brewed sound: influenced by ‘70s-era cock-strutting sex-oozing blues-influenced hard and psychedelic rock, all crunchy muscular guitar riffs, crashing drum fills and droning-howling vocals that have a sort of Dark Wave quality.

The outfit is helmed by singer-songwriter Dustin Hill, who recorded all the music on 2012 debut On Blonde before he was joined by bandmates Ryan McIntire (guitar), Dean Carroll (drums), Aaron Poplin (bass) and Keith O'Dell (keys). Sophomore follow-up Less Info More Mojo was recorded with Brant Bjork (Kyuss) and is due out later this year. In the meantime, Black Pussy dropped a 22-minute version of their track "Galaxies" on a split 7" with biblical proof of UFOs. A digital single version is available at blackpussy.bandcamp.com. Also performing on this night: Into the Cellar (featuring members of Palantine and Early Forms), and COSM. 8 p.m., Crowbar, Ybor City, $10.

Check out a few videos by the band after the jump...
