This week was full of live music revelations. Well, only a few worth mentioning, but these few were big ones, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe it's because I live just about a mile away from State Theatre and up until the 2014 announcements started coming through, had been somewhat disappointed in the venue's general concert offerings. Or maybe it's because both artists landing here are among my favorites — one I've seen numerous times, the other I haven't seen nor thought I'd ever get the chance.

Either way, both of Montreal and Deltron 3030 are making their way to St. Petersburg and I'm pretty goddamn stoked about it.

Deltron 3030 is Del the Funky Homosapien, Dan The Automator and Kid Koala, all individual talents I can get behind, and collaborators who've worked together innumerable times over the years. Deltron 3030: Event II, the second and latest album from the alt hip hop-tronic supergroup, was 13 years in the making and got the kids buzzing when the threesome finally released it after so many years of threatening to do so. It's a conceptual work that I haven't gotten super deep into but liked immediately, and features guest spots by Aaron Bruno of AWOL Nation, Zach De La Rocha, The Lonely Island, Damon Albarn and Casual, Emily Wells, Mike Patton and Jamie Cullum among others. No word on whether or not they'll be joined by any special guests... tickets will be on sale for the Wed., April 2 show one day in the near future. We imagine it will be sometime after State Theatre actually posts the show on the site.

About a month later, one of my all-time favorites, Athens' most eye-crossing yet sticky-catchy psychedelic pop band, of Montreal, returns to the Tampa Bay area and finally lands in St. Pete. Can't say I remember them ever playing here; not in seven or more years, if at all. But I did see them play Czar last year (it was a Best of the Bay-worthy performance), and cannot WAIT to see them play my 'hood. The new album, Lousy with Sylvanbriar, is definitely more Grateful Dead-trippy than the usual confetti pop explosions, but still a rather nice display from Kevin Barnes & Co. Plus, hyped up Brazilian indie rockers Boogarins bring added value to the bill.

This show is another one that's not yet been added to the State Theatre site, however, you can reserve $17 advance tickets now via aestheticized presents; do that here.

Check out recent tracks by both artists below.
