A brand new year means brand new music. Thus, we present you with the first week of new releases in 2014 (and the first week of new music in January)! Info and links for the ones you want to know about most below, plus some other ones you may not have heard of (but should know), with audio & video for your listening and viewing pleasure. I've also included a list of releases due out over the next several months; keep your ears peeled...

Peter Gabriel, And I’ll Scratch Yours (Real World)
After pushing the drop date back numerous times since the initial slated 2010 release, this LP — originally conceived as a companion piece to his 2010 covers album Scratch My Back — finds other artists covering Peter Gabriel's material; ironically enough, the plan was to have the artists whom Gabriel covered on that LP, cover him on this one, but four ultimately declined the opportunity to take part: Radiohead, David Bowie, Neil Young and Ray Davies. The album now features two new artists (Feist and Joseph Arthur) along with Lou Reed, Bon Iver, David Byrne, Regina Spektor, Randy Newman, Arcade Fire, Elbow, Brian Eno and Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields). The album sees its U.S. release today. Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) discusses his contribution after the jump...

Harm Wülf, There's Honey in the Soil So We Wait for the Till (Deathwish)
The solo musical project of Blacklisted frontman G. Hirsch.

Kid Ink, My Own Lane (RCA)

Permanent Makeup, Gibbering 7" (New Granada Records/No Clear Records)
We awarded Permanent Makeup a Best of the Bay award last year for their full-length debut of strident avant post-punk, The Void … It Creeps, because it fucking rocked our faces off. They’ve crashed and banged into 2014 with some fresh material on a 7” jointly released by New Granada and bassist Chris Nadeau’s own DIY label, No Clear Records. The band plays with No Statik (from California) and a few others at Epic Problem in Tampa tomorrow night (Jan. 8); admission is $8. They headline a 7 p.m. release show at Planet Retro next Tue., Jan. 14, with Priests; free admission.
