Last night we reported on Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio's sobering report to the City Council on the city's budget outlook for 2011. Iorio says the city must cut $27 million, which she says will be harder than the $90 million they've already cut over the past 3 years;
You all know about Bill Young vs. Charlie Justice. But do you who Eric Forcade is?
Rahm Emanuel seems to piss a lot of people off. But a sympathetic Washington Post column supporting him has led to more intrigue;
And Tampa area Democrat Kathy Castor was in town yesterday boasting about another local agency benefiting from stimulus money;
the report here.
Peter Taylor (of Wood Fired Pizza Wine Bar) and Dan Bavaro (of Pizzaiolo Bavaro) come in to talk about the Tampa Bay pizza scene, which was shocked back into life this year thanks to their two restaurants.
Taylor is a fanatic who wants to make the best pizza in the world, day in and day out, based a conglomeration of different styles and cultures. Bavaro makes his own version of classic Neapolitan pizza. They're both serious artists who've set a new bar for pies in the area. Hear their take on proper pizza, and how they make the best pies in the Bay.
And, if you're an amateur pizza maker, check out this auction in the CL Holiday Auction Experience, which provides the highest bidder a chance to work dough and tend oven with these two pizza masters, then feed your friends with the pies you create.
After a break for the past couple of weeks, Brian invites Grayson and Alex from GNATV.com to come in and talk about their new season of video restaurant reviews and such. They're embarking on a four-episode adventure into the fine art of backyard gardening, mainly so Grayson can sate his incredible appetite for parsnips.
We also talk about Brian's Smorgasbord IKEA stories, and next week's Best of the Bay debut party. Buy your tickets now!
This week, Brian and Taylor invite CL editor David Warner in to talk about his bandwagon-jumping Beef Bourgignon experiment -- and why the Bourgignon part should be ignored. Brian raves over Wood Fired Pizza Wine Bar -- despite the lack of wine -- and Taylor goes stream of consciousness about a chardonnay and steak matchup.
This week, Brian and Taylor invite PoHo Wayne Garcia in for a special food-related recession session. We drink vodka flavored with baby aspirin and discuss the reduction in creamy splooge at Dunkin Donuts, SoHo Sushi's so so sushi, Taylor's list of recession wines, and the problems restaurants are having in this economy.
This week, Brian and Taylor just drink and chat about whatever comes to mind, like Taco Bus owner Rene Valenzuela's new restaurant, or St. Pete's Buona Vita, or how to chill your wine consumption this summer.
Brian and Taylor chat with Gui Alinat -- local chef and recent CL food contributor. We also run down Brian's obsession with Domenica Macchia of Diner 437, the closing of Ybor's The Nest, the re-opening of Wild Shrimp Company, and Taylor's love for white wines from Bordeaux.
Brian and Taylor chat with Craig Dean, wine director at Hyde Park's Wine Exchange, discuss Brian's review of new downtown spot Rawbar, and discuss what we'll be drinking on July 4th.
Brian and Taylor chat with CL food contributor and successful blogger for EatLiveRun.com, Jenna Weber; discuss Brian's love affair with Paci Pizza; Jenna and Taylor's quest for the Murphy-Goode Dream Job; Brian's homemade smoky pork product and CL's new food contributor, Chef Gui.
CL's Food and Wine podcast. Brian and Taylor invite CL's own PoHo in to talk about Tampa Bay's Top 50 Restaurants, Taylor's (hopefully) new job and rosé wines.
