That said, I like her album. It’s not gonna make my “Best Of The Year” list or probably even be in my CD rotation in two months, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like it in this moment. I guess I like it in the same way I liked the Gaga album with “Poker Face” on it and the last Katy Perry album neither of which can I remember the album titles without the aid of Google. But hey, it’s pop music and pop music has, since the dawn of radio, been a disposable art form.
But back to Del Rey.
Knowing that she’s a complete fabrication, is it okay to like her CD? Knowing that everything about her was designed and engineered to appeal to us, is it still okay to enjoy the CD on a sonic basis?
Really. I am asking you.
It brings the whole McDonald's Chicken McNugget versus McRib debate to mind for me. [More after the jump.]
Reddick had been getting heat from his constituents for the fact that the swimming pool had been closed for years, and other members of council had also begun showing their frustration with city staff about finding out what the actual costs would be to repair the swimming pool, located in Williams Park off of MLK Blvd.
Ultimately, the city announced they had $1.2 million to fix the pool, where construction is scheduled to begin next year. But when the Tampa City Council gathers tonight at 5:01 p.m., they'll be hearing about funding for another swimming pool - this one in Davis Islands.

Another month, another podcast. This time around, I started the show sort of recapping my experiences in Austin for SXSW and tried to transition away from the subject as the show wore on, but as it turns out, damned near every band featured on this podcast was either a band I saw in Austin or one I tried to see. I guess it's hard to get away from it, especially when you were just there.
Somewhere hidden in this show is a really cool giveaway, but it's gonna take some actual listening for you to learn what it is. Other than that, I really don't have too much to say about this month's show. It features some brand new music from The Black Keys, The Pack A.D., The Legendary Shackshakers and most recent New West signee, Ponderosa, and the show closes with one of the best songs the .357 String Band has ever written.
Next month is the one-year anniversary of the nineullets.net podcast. I might have some giveaways for that, too -- we'll see. In the mean time, feel free to send me some of your song suggestions for the show.
As always, youll find the track listing and the show after the jump. Please tell your friends and Facebook/Twitter followers about it, Ill greatly appreciate it.
Drive-By Truckers return with their 10th studio album, The Big To-Do, and they've managed to bring back some of the rawk. I gotta be honest. After the last two studio releases, I was pretty sure my torrid love affair with the band was in its setting sun. Seemed marriages, kids, label disputes and time had worn the edge off the band, and I really wasn't digging their new direction very much. That feeling was reinforced when "The Fine Print" came out and I was reminded about how good the band had been and how subpar I felt the last two albums were. Then I read somewhere that Patterson said the new album was gonna be a "return to rock" and despite myself, I started looking forward to the release of The Big To-Do.
So, I guess the big question is, "Is it the return to rock the band promised?" The best answer I can come up with is, "That depends on your reference point." I mean, it's not the rock record that SRO, Decoration Day or The Dirty South were, but when set alongside A Blessing and A Curse and Brighter Than Creations Dark, it's rock n' roll side is undeniable and quite welcome.
Local blog, ninebullets.net, is throwing a party out in Austin for SXSW. So, if your musical tastes tend to lean towards the alt country, then this might be a perfect way for you to kick off your weekend.
On Wedneday, March 17 at Opa! (2050 S. Lamar Blvd.), ninebullets.net will host its first-ever SxSW Party featuring American Aquarium (6 p.m.), Austin Lucas (7 p.m.), Kasey Anderson (8 p.m.), Glossary (9 p.m.) and Joe Pug (10 p.m.).
All props go to Kasey for setting this up. I hope to see/meet some of y'all there. I am sure it'll be a good time.
Check out MP3's by all the performers after the jump.

Whew! This month really snuck up on me. All the SxSW research and planning I was doing distracted me and I looked at my calendar one night and realized I only had 5 days before this bad boy needed to be done. It's all good though, I don't need much more than a night or two and a bottle of whiskey (or two) to knock these babies out. This month I really focused on getting all the ID tagging complete and accurate for those of you that download the podcast and I finally even figured out how to embed the tracklisting as lyrics. That was something that was suggested to me a few months back but I had no idea how to do it. I still have no idea how to view 'em, so if you do please leave me a comment telling me whether I did it right or not.
This month I decided to feature bands that are playing SxSW that I am gonna be making a point to catch. I've been told by people who've been there before that I need to head out there with a well planned out spreadsheet to tell me where I wanna be and when, and then I need to be prepared to toss it aside immediately. I'm prepared to do all of that and I just bought a pair of comfortable shoes. All that's really left to do is to say a few prayers for my liver. I totally plan on documenting the entire trip via live tweets (follow me on twitter), Facebook postings (me on facebook) and I hope to capture some good acoustic performances and interviews on the Flip camera to bring back for y'all. Other than that, I hope y'all enjoy this month's show (last month's was the busiest ever!) and, as always, please tell your friends and Facebook/Twitter followers about it 'cause Id greatly appreciate it. ~ Autopsy IV (twitter/facebook/myspace)

I wasn't too sure this podcast was even gonna happen in the middle of the month. The beginning of the month was all holidays, the middle was spent in the mountains on vacation and the end was spent prepping for, and then undergoing, some medical tests. All of this failed to allow me to do one thing, prep for the ninebullets.net January podcast. That said, I seriously think this might have turned out to be the best podcast I've done yet, quality wise. During the podcast I thought it was too mellow but after listening to it in the car I think I was wrong, and not only is this one of the best podcasts I've done quality wise, it very well may be one of the best I've done, period. On a final note, I tried something a little new on this podcast and mixed in music underneath me while I was talking. I'd love to hear how you guys think it turned out and if I should make it a regular thing.
Since it's a new year I tried to focus on new or freshly released music. All of these songs were released in the past month or will be getting released in the coming month. So enjoy the hell out of it, lemme know what you think and, as always, please tell your friends and Facebook/Twitter followers about it, Ill greatly appreciate it.

ninebullets.net is bringing the .357 String Band & Bob Waynes revue style (think revival tour) show to The Emerald in Downtown St. Pete. If the idea of outlaw country and plenty of punk injected into your bluegrass sounds fun then this is a must see show.
Opening is St. Petes own Dear Old Liar as featured in Creative Loafings 2009 Best of the Bay edition, BEST NEW CHICK BAND: No coffee shop waifs stinking of patchouli and singing sappy ballads here. Whiskey, cigarettes and sultry blues perfect for these hot Florida nights.
Hope to see yall out there!

The rains made the night was less than hospitable but those that made it out were treated to a wonderful night of music. We arrived just was Knoxville's Matt Woods was wrapping his set up so I immediately hit the bar for some social lubrication. Two Red Seal Ales into the night The Most Beautiful Losers took the stage. I've had their cd in my computer room for a few months now but I've not managed to give it a listen. Live, they're loud, rough and everything rock and roll is supposed to be. Watching them play made me want, nay, need whiskey and the moment their set was complete I made the rain hindered sprint over to Fuma Bella's to quell the monster with a few shots before Will Quinlan took the stage. Seems great minds think alike as the bulk of Truckstop Coffee, Matt Woods and no shortage of show attendees were doing the same thing.
One thing is for sure, when Will Quinlan is on, there are few better and on this night Will was as on as I've seen him in quite some time. Joining Will on stage was his regular drummer (I should, but I don't know his name), Have Gun Will Travel guitarist, Scott Anderson and Truckstop Coffee bassist, James (Bob) Hershberger. At some point during Will's set I tweeted (or Facebooked) a picture of Will with the text, "Will Quinlan, if you don't know, ask me tomorrow." I think watching Will was best summed up by Larry (Truckstop's drummer), Will started playing the opening of "Remember the Beatnicks" and leaned over to Larry saying how much I loved the song and he said, "I know! I can't believe I know the guy who wrote it." Will Quinlan is a rare treat and we're lucky to have him so seriously, if you don't know...ask me about him.
This could have easily been called the Truckstop Coffee CD release party, Take 2. See, the band came to town a few months back for their official cd release show but the road had chewed them up pretty good by the time they got to Tampa (read here) and the show ended up being a Pete Stein solo show. This time, the band was complete and the rock was brought. Unfortunately much of the crowd had filtered out or stayed inside for Truckstop's set but those that continued to brave the humidity were greeted to a highly energetic show comprised mostly of songs from TC's new album, For Dear Life. Highlights of the night (for me) were my two favorite songs from the new album, "Laredo Skies" and "Ghost or an Angel" as well as a full band version of "Fly Far Blackbird", the standout track from Pete's solo album. By the end of the night everyone, including the band, was lubed enough to make the crowd to band banter alone worth the price of admission.
In all, it was another night that serves as a huge reminder that Florida is currently flush with amazing musical talent that we should be supporting in full and you can all start with the January 30 all Florida bill of The Takers, Greenland is Melting and Nessie show at New World Brewery. Come be a part of it.

Welcome to the November version of the ninebullets.net podcast. This month, since it's Thanksgiving, I decided to do an all Florida version as an homage to the bands that play week in and week out in my home state. You know, the bands we can see so often we take them for granted. Passing up their shows for whatever the current buzz band coming through town that weekend is, with the fleeting promise that you'll catch their show next weekend. Well this month, on ninebullets, is their show. Thanks for all the drunken nights y'all have given us this year, and I look forward to more of it in the coming year.
In keeping with the Florida theme I reached out to Cigar City Brewing to sponsor this month's show. They agreed and gave me IPA, Mocha Cubano, Brown Ale, Imperial Stout and some others. The idea was to drink them while I did the podcast like I did last month, but once we opened the first growler I knew that wasn't gonna happen. While I took the entire month to work through the Rogue beers, we put down all of the Cigar City beer in two days. If you live in the Tampa area you should get over to their brewery and buy you some. Trust me, I'm a professional.
There is also a ton of free stuff for you listeners wrapped inside this month's podcast. We have free cds from Have Gun Will Travel, Greenland Is Melting and Chuck Ragan. We also have a vinyl copy of The Takers album and a beautiful 7" picture disc from Chuck Ragan. To find out how to win this stuff you're gonna have to actually listen to the show.
That's it. I hope y'all enjoy listening to this show as much as I did making it. I think it turned out really well and I am proud of it, as well as the bands that are featured in it. Do me a favor though, if you listen and you enjoy the show, please tell other people about it.
Thanks, everyone. ~Autopsy IV (web / twitter / facebook)
