Only a few weeks after the owners of Casita Taqueria learned that Trader Joe's had likely purchased the 2700 block of Fourth St. in St. Pete, where their popular Mexican restaurant is currently situated, they found a new location.

Don and Gwen Arvin plan on moving Casita Taqueria to 2663 Central Ave., in the Grand Central District.

"It's an old Texaco gas station built in 1935," Don Arvin told CL Monday. "We are getting things together as we speak."

Arvin says there's quite a bit of construction to do on the space, and he's currently in the process of getting permits.

"It's never been a restaurant," he said. "There's a lot of work to be done."

That includes replacing the old garage doors, which will allow for an open-air concept. There will also be a green space out back.

"We're a little nervous and scared," he said. "But I think our regulars will follow us there and maybe we'll get some new people from the neighborhood."

Casita Taqueria hopes to reopen in its new location by January 2014. The restaurant will remain open in its current location until that time (save a week or two of closing to move equipment and decor to the new spot).
