Today is Spirit Day, a day to support LGBT youth and take a stand against bullying.
And it’s easy to do. Simply wear purple throughout the day and let people know why you’re doing it. You can even turn your Facebook profile and cover photos purple to show your support. There’s also an official Spirit Day app you can download for all of the resources you need for the day.
Spirit Day came about in October 2010, following a rash of suicides by gay teens due to bullying. Now the day is observed around the world.
The day also has tremendous celebrity support. This year’s Spirit Day Ambassadors include outspoken straight allies Macklemore and Ryan Lewis; Laverne Cox from “Orange is the New Black”; Jason Collins, the first openly gay NBA player; Snooki and JWOWW from “The Jersey Shore” and more.
