Recent stellar exhibitions have included notables like Dominique Labauvie, Kirk Ke Wang and Theo Wujcik. This month Stacy Rosende and Santiago Echeverry further up the ante at HCC's Dale Mabry and Ybor campuses.
Today, find out from Tampa artist Stacy Rosende why nothing makes an artist feel refreshed and inspired quite like a summer residency in Venice, Italy.
For her new show subSURFACE, Mixed Media by Stacy Rosende , the artist will share her observations and impressions through oil and wax paintings, elaborate monotype prints and uniquely fascinating cast sculptures.
At a reception this afternoon, Rosende will give an artist talk that begins at 6 p.m., divulging how a change of scenery helped shift her focus and inspired her to experiment with color, texture and meaning in her works. While at the reception that takes place from 5 to 7 p.m., SideShow by Lori Ballard will be on display in the upstairs gallery October-December. Rosende's show will be on display through Nov. 7; hours are Mon.-Thu., 8 a.m.-8 p.m.; Fri. and Sat., 8 a.m.-2 p.m. HCC Dale Mabry Gallery 221 is at 4001 W. Tampa Bay Blvd., Tampa (off Dale Mabry near Raymond James Stadium). hccfl.edu/dm/gallery-221-home.aspx.the 2013 CL Best of the Bay winner for "Best Satirical Arrrrrr!t" for his imaginative Buccaneer Bruce — presents Modern Saints: Santiago Echeverry, an exhibition of digital photography, prints and alternative video at HCC-Ybor's School of Visual and Performing Arts Gallery.
His group of digital photos studies the fears of younger generations and the way they have been able to overcome them successfully — expressed artistically through the dichotomy between realism and hyper-pixilation.
“In today’s world, without real dragons, who could these saints and their monsters be?” Echeverry said in his artist statement. “I asked this question to 10 very diverse and talented young people who live and work in Tampa. Each one came up with their own visualizations of their own monsters, frustrations and fears.”
Echeverry's show is on display through Oct. 29. HCC-Ybor Gallery hours are Mon. and Wed.-Fri. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Tuesdays noon-7 p.m. Parking is available in the HCC visitor lots, the garage on 15th Street and the Nuccio Parkway.
