Today, on St. Patrick’s Day, New World Brewery and New Granada present The Veldt, a noted 1990’s band that was originally based out of Chapel Hill, N.C., but now founding members (and identical twin brothers) Daniel and Danny Chavis reside in New York City. The Veldt made their mark touring with likes of The Cocteau Twins and Oasis after their Stardog/Mercury release Marigolds in 1992. They didn’t really get lumped in with Brit pop, but weren’t solidly considered a shoegaze band, either, which helped in some ways and hindered in others, though they put out two subsequent well-regarded recordings before dissolving in the late '90s.

The Chavis brothers regrouped and formed Apollo Heights, which still garners a 4AD feel but with a more earthy soul inspired blend of refined trip hop that attracted guest appearances on their album White Music For Black People by Mos Def and Lady Miss Kier from Delite.

The reunion of The Veldt (the Chavis brothers with drummer Marvin Levi and bassist Dave Burris) is likely to bring out an eclectic and diverse crowd that spans the decades, which accurately reflects the audio art they set forth to create. More info about the show here.
