Props to the Tampa Tribune for their above-the-fold story this morning regarding what appears to be a case of blatant hypocrisy regarding the Pasco County school district and its policies regarding Mitt Romney's campaign appearance at Land O'Lakes High School tomorrow night.
Romney surrogate John Sununu rapidly danced away from his comment on Pier Morgan Live last night that inferred that Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama yesterday was based on their shared racial characteristics. Earlier in the day we made sure to monitor Rush Limbaugh's comments on the Powell endorsement, since Limbaugh "went there" with impunity four years ago, but not this time.
As everyone knows, Ybor City was teeming with excited folks of all persuasions gathered early to watch President Obama deliver a relatively short speech (Joe Biden's speech from a week ago in Sun City Center went twice as long). The President again hyped up the early vote, which officially begins tomorrow in Florida.
In Hillsborough County, no race has churned up more dirt than the County Commissioner District 6 seat between Democrat Kevin Beckner and Republican Margaret Iuculano. Beckner went up yesterday with a hard-hitting ad against his GOP opponent.
Speaking of racial issues in the media, please check out our cover story on Tampa Bay Times media critic Eric Deggans' new book, Race-Baiter, which hits bookstores everywhere early next week.
