Best of the Bay-winner Jason Sowell and his organization Current of Tampa Bay are making positive waves again.

This weekend the Tampa charity that's also helped the needy through its Laundry Love Project will make much needed home repairs for Pasco County cancer patient and his family while offering daytime activities and a vacation stay at a Tampa hotel. The endeavor is part of its Hope for Homes Project.

Jeff Calkowski, who owns and operates a small sign business in Land o' Lakes, has been chosen to receive assistance. Calkowski was recently diagnosed with oral cancer and is undergoing various treatments. His wife, Amy, has had to run the business by herself as he battles the disease, and they have been struggling financially due to Calkowski's staggering medical expenses.

Current has come to the Calkowskis' rescue with home repairs for the family that will include new fixtures, faucets, roof repairs, drywall repair, atrium cleanup and new appliances. Hope for Homes Projects generally range from small remodel or repair jobs to more extensive repairs, which help bay area families enjoy a better quality of life. The $12,000 renovation will be completed over the 57-hour weekend period.

Local companies such as Wholesale Coaching Inc., Amoroso Cabinets, Grow Life Church, Reality Church, Krewe of Agustina, The Florida Aquarium and Vistra Communications, are providing support for the project.

Hope for Homes is still in need of supplies like paint, vinyl siding, storage boxes, cleaning supplies and much more.
