There aren't that many Democrats holding legislative seats in Tallahassee, so one of the priorities for the Florida Democratic Party is to maintain the seats that they do possess.
Rick Kriseman has represented the South St. Petersburg/Pinellas area for the past six years in the state House of Representatives.
But he opted not to run for re-election this year, opening up a chance for Democrat Josh Shulman to contest Republican Kathleen Peters in the newly constituted District 69 district.
Today the Florida Dems announced the release of an ad in support of Shulman, best known for his unsuccessful bid for the St. Pete City Council seat ultimately won by Charlie Gerdes last year. Peters is the mayor of South Pasadena.
The ad is a bit schizophrenic; the first part of it is quite sunny in selling the viewers on the Shulman story as a family man. But the second part of the 30-second ad then goes all dark in castigating his GOP opponent in unflattering terms.
