Dancing is ingrained in our species on a cellular level. At its core, this rhythmic expression is a mating display that communicates primal cues. The only thing that changes between cultures is the style. For much of western society, the strip tease, and more specifically, pole dancing, has become the quintessential form of seductive dancing. Unsurprisingly, it is also one of the few forms of dance men will pay to watch.
This Saturday, the Miss Pole Champ competition at Pink Pony in Tampa celebrated those performers who elevate pole dancing to an art. The competition provided a forum for these aerial acrobats to showcase their talents for an audience who was interested in more than just seeing them naked. However, unlike other pole competitions, Miss Pole Champ does not divorce the athleticism and artistry of pole dancing from its roots. Competitors were allowed to perform in as little clothing as they felt comfortable.
