Mitch Perry Report: Rick Scott gets speaking gig at RNC

Other announced speakers include John McCain, Condi Rice and Mike Huckabee.

Props to the Tampa Bay Times Rick Danielson for his above the fold scoop in this morning's paper on providing the first names of speakers at this month's Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Among the notables who will speak include John McCain, Condi Rice, Mike Huckabee, and yes, Rick Scott.
Is that a surprise? Well, obviously RNC Chair Reince Priebus must not be making these decisions. When asked a couple of weeks ago at the Tampa Bay Times Forum if Scott would get a speaking shot, Priebus said this:

"I mean, he's the hometown governor," he said. "I'm sure he's got, I'm sure he's got plenty, uh, you know, I'm sure there's a welcome, you know, there's a lot of protocol there too, so I don't want to get into the details because I don't know what the answer to that is yet."

Of course, no times have been listed yet. Don't expect Scott to get on anywhere near 10 p.m., which is when the broadcast networks will begin their one hour of coverage each night from Tampa.

Speaking of the general election (which takes place 3 months from tomorrow), Harry Reid's comment about Mitt Romney's taxes dominated Sunday talk, and though no Democrat is standing behind their Senate leader's unsubstantiated charge per se, they're more than happy to have the issue of Romney's taxes back in the headlines.

Texas' probable next Senator, Ted Cruz, did his first Sunday morning talk show yesterday. His victory in the GOP primary last week made us ruminate on the absurdity of some folks thinking the Tea Party's prominence has peaked.
