On Tuesday, July 31, Cigar City Brewing competed against 1,650 beers at the United States Open Beer Championship in Atlanta. The U.S. Open Beer Championship is the only competition that includes professional breweries and notable home-brewers. Hundreds of beers competed in 65 categories.

Atlanta's Sweetwater Brewing was named Grand National Champion when it took three gold, three silver and bronze medal at the competition. Boston Beer Company, known for their Sam Adam's brews, took second. Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon took third.

Tampa's own Cigar City Brewing placed fourth as one of the top breweries in the country, based on the number of beers in the competition placing first, second, or third. Cigar City Brewing was the only Florida brewery to place in the top 10 overall.

Cigar City's Barley Wine, Church on a Hill, won silver. The Ligero Schwarzbier won bronze. Honahpu's Impertial Stout won gold for the chocolate/cocoa beer category. Their Baltic Porter, Kalevipoeg Baltic Porter, also won a gold medal.
