Weary of what public education advocates have called an assault on the school system, one grade-school teacher has decided to fight the legislature by trying to become part of it.
That school teacher/candidate is Karen Castor Dentel, the sister of Tampa area Democratic Congresswoman Kathy Castor and daughter of former Education Commissioner and state Senator Betty Castor. Castor Dentel is running as a Democrat in the newly drawn Florida State House District 30 in Maitland, which is located north of Orlando.
"It was just one thing after another, until I finally said something needs to change, they need a different perspective up in Tallahassee," Castor Dentel told CL at the Florida Democratic Convention this past weekend in Tampa.
