Hark! The Banyan reopens in St. Petersburg
After a brief hiatus, owner Erica Allums is back in the Banyan's kitchen and ready to open the doors once more.

The Banyan Coffee & Tea Company closed its doors last summer without notice. Was it the economy? The St. Petersburg breakfast and lunch spot was always brimming with patrons. It left this customer pining for the bacon and goat cheese flatbread with honey.
For weeks after, people would pace in front of the storefront at 689 9th St. N, peering in with perplexed faces.

But after a brief hiatus, owner Erica Allums is back in the Banyan Tree's kitchen and ready to open the doors once more. Allums put the cafe on pause to spend time with her college-bound daughter last year. The reopening is slated for sometime in the next two weeks.
Kahwa Coffee is on tap and the menu is much the same. Funky breakfasts, pastries, sandwiches and soups that comfort the morning and midday soul.
I Love the 'Burg reported Tuesday that Allums is currently trying to get a beer and wine license. There is rumor she may even extend hours on Thursday and Friday.
Whatever Allums does with the new menu, this working-class foodie urges her to bring back the bacon and goat cheese flatbread with honey.
