Gather round, kids! It's Story Time!
No, you don't need a blankie, and sorry, you won't get cookies and milk (though there will be Cafe Hey cupcakes).
Story Time is a new music and reading series, premiering tonight at CL Space, that was designed by CL's irrepressible Julie Garisto to provide "an outlet outside the deadline-driven grind" for some of the area's best writers. Add music, art and a theme — tonight's is "Shot Through the Heart: Tales of Love, Heartbreak and Humiliation" — and you've got an event that's sure to warm your pre-Valentine's cockles.
The lineup for the inaugural Story Time is stellar. Writers include former Times music critic Gina Vivinetto (whose story has "a tragic twist involving Duran Duran"); Times staff writer and Pulitzer finalist Ben Montgomery, who's either going to do something very funny or very sad; CL's Life As We Blow It columnist Scott Harrell; and CL writers/editors Joe Bardi (channeling the heretofore unknown love-story stylings of Bob Woodward), Arielle Stevenson and Julie herself.
WMNF’s “Artful Dodgings” host DJ Arielle spins between acts. Gentlemen Please perform their uniquely accessible indie-pop, and cult cabaret act Coco and Homo are promising "to give Creative Loafing Tampa the biggest heart-on it's ever had."
8-11 p.m.-ish, Fri., Feb. 10, CL Space, 1911 E. Eighth Ave., Ybor City (above Spaghetti Warehouse), $5 admission, 813-739-4800, cltampa.com.
