Many of us go out for cocktails to celebrate events, commiserate misfortunes, connect during a date, de-stress after a rough day or simply to enjoy the camaraderie of friends and co-workers.

It's no surprise then that the newest trend to hit the world of mixology is the emotion-inspired cocktail — drinks designed to "taste" like human emotions. Bartenders all over the country have begun to whip up concoctions that utilize taste, texture, appearance, aroma and temperature to embody human emotions.

Recently, three Tampa Bay area bartenders have created drinks for Russian Standard Vodka's "Emotion In A Glass" Bartender Competition. Nate Dewitt from Mise en Place in Downtown Tampa created "Trust", Dean Hurst from SideBern's in South Tampa gives us "Surprise" and Ryan Carroll of the Maritana Grille at the Don CeSar Resort on St. Pete Beach offers up "Peace of Mind" (see the recipes below).

After receiving submissions from over 100 bartenders from around the country, Ryan Carroll's creation made the Top 25 of the competition.

Facebook users can now log on to Russian Standard Vodka's Facebook page to vote for their favorite cocktail or show support for their local bartenders in the contest. Visit www.facebook.com/RussianStandardVodkaUSA, become a "fan" and then click on "Emotion In A Glass" to vote.

The bartender with the most user votes will win a trip to New Orleans during Tales of The Cocktail in July 2011. The Grand Prize Winner, as chosen by The United States Bartenders' Guild and Russian Standard Vodka, will receive a trip for two to Russia and land in the pages of Food & Wine Magazine, showcasing the winning Emotion cocktail. Voting ends at midnight on Saturday, June 4th, and the winners will be named on Monday, June 20th.
