Dining Out for Life Apr. 28: Eat out, fight AIDS

Maybe start with one of those tasty breakfast sandwiches at Banyan Coffee & Tea in St. Pete or brioche French toast at Datz in South Tampa, then move on to ribs for lunch at Smokin' J's BBQ in Gulfport and finish with a Best of the Bay-worthy meal at The Refinery in Seminole Heights.

Or you could go Pinellas all the way with breakfast at the Friendly Fisherman in Madeira Beach, lunch at Casa Tina's in Dunedin, dinner at Peg's in Gulfport and after-dinner cocktails at The Pro Shop Pub in Clearwater, the oldest continuously owned gay bar in the state (or so they say — whatever, it's a very convivial spot for an after-dinner drink).

So get out there and eat, drink and be merry (or be Mary, if you wind up at Hamburger Mary's). Oh, and between-meal-snacks count, too — The Cupcake Spot in St. Petersburg is participating all day long.

All day Thursday, April 28, you can raise money to help those with HIV/AIDS simply by going out to eat.

In 65 cities across the country, restaurants participating in Dining Out for Life will donate 25 percent of food proceeds to AIDS service organizations. In Tampa Bay, the beneficiary is AIDS Service Association of Pinellas (ASAP), which has been providing services to the Pinellas County HIV/AIDS community since 1987.

So it's not surprising, perhaps, that most of the 77 participating Tampa Bay restaurants are located in Pinellas. But there are several choices in South Tampa and Ybor, too.

In short, it's a great day to go out for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
