who has ever watched porn has probably had this thought, but the difference between this team and your average college dreamers is that they actually followed through on this ambition. Damon majored in film while Bijan sought a business degree. Not wanting to merely copy what had been done, they immersed themselves in 3D technology. After testing hundreds of potential 3D techniques, they landed on a new technology that they believe eliminates many of the problems associated with the usual red and blue 3D glasses.
With the technology in place, the pair set to work filming what would become The Virtual Reality Stimulator 3D. Many people in the adult industry and on the independent film scene were surprised by how easily Damon and Bijan infiltrated the porn world. Their unique position as outsiders may not so much be a detriment as a platform for leading the way in even more innovations when it comes to how people film and think about porn.
“We wanted to treat this film like a Hollywood production,” Damon said. “We had a ten person crew, craft services, a generator. The actors said they had never been on a set like that.”[image-1]
The VR Stimulator opens with a premise that the pair admit was written more as a joke than an attempt at a plot. Sarah Vandela is alone in her apartment, hungry for something to fill her up; she orders a large Sicilian. Instead of a hung delivery boy, Sarah’s ex-boyfriend appears to recover his top secret virtual reality stimulator. 3D sex ensues.
“Presales have gone really well,” Bijan said. “Our distributor [JuicyXXX] is really happy with the turn out. We’ve been getting great reviews on it and most of their clients are buying double what they normally would.”
In terms of sales, the pair’s biggest obstacle is convincing buyers that their product is different from other 3D porns.
“All the other companies are producing it with red and blue glasses which give a lot of people headaches.” Damon said. “Viewers have been turned off by 3D because these other companies are doing it wrong. We have to reeducate consumers on how our product is different.”
Although the film was just released September 29, Bijan and Damon are already in pre-production for their next film. While they like the idea of capitalizing on entertainment trends in mainstream media, neither care for the recent rash of parody porns.
“We’re not really into those parodies,” said Damon. “The closest we would come is making a parody of parody porns.”
“We want to support legitimate productions that make sense in 3D,” Bijan added, “not awful 2D conversions.”
They plans to produce a new film every few months now that they have the work flow down. Like any bright-eyed film school grad, Damon has plans to produce big budget, original features.
“One of my goals is to make an adult film that is actually good,” he said. “A movie you actually want to watch and not fast forward through the sex scenes.”
While the idea of making more mainstream porn isn’t new, neither was the idea to make 3D porn, and yet the pair have succeeded at that despite their lack of experience.
“We want to constantly be innovating and make a name for ourselves,” Bijan said. “Our goal is to create a brand and a quality product.”
Despite their business savvy, the two still retain some of their college sensibilities, most notably when it came to naming their production company Ultra Magnum Creations.
“We were friends throughout high school,” Damon says, “and we started calling Bijan, ‘Ultra’.”
“Actually,” Bijan interrupts. “Damon was the first of us to start advertising that he used Magnum condoms, so people started calling him Magnum. Being the cool kid that I am, I said, ‘Hey I need a nick name too.’ Ultra just stuck. When we decided to start this company, the names just worked too perfectly not to use.”
When asked if the two had started living like porn kingpins, they laughed.
“I can’t say we’ve been living the porn star party life,” Bijan said. “We haven’t really had too much time.”
“When women find out what we do, they either love it or hate it,” Damon says. “The smart ones don’t talk to us anymore.”
