3X 3D: inside The Virtual Reality Stimulator 3D (NSFW)

Ever since I got a projector, it's been my dream to screen 3D porn in my living room for a crowd of women, then revel in the impending orgy. This weekend I realized this fantasy when I received an advanced copy of The Virtual Reality Stimulator 3D. Unfortunately the copy only came with two 3D glasses, so my orgy was limited to one woman. But with pornstars popping off the wall, one live woman was more than I could handle.

The film opens by riffing on a porn convention. The sultry blonde, Sarah Vandella (Sara Sloane), is alone in her apartment, hungry for something to fill her up; she orders a large Sicilian. Instead of a hung delivery boy, Sarah's ex-boy friend, Pike Nelson, appears to recover his top secret virtual reality stimulator. Two hours of 3D sex ensues.

The adult industry is built on the premise of bringing consumers closer to experiences they'll probably never have: namely uninhibited and consequence-free sex with beautiful strangers. 3D brings audience one step closer to the holy grail of porn: virtual reality sex.

Any man who has ever seen a 3D film has fantasized about this technology being applied to porn. The recent Piranhas 3D capitalized on this desire, stringing together a plot based loosely on a lake full of topless spring breakers bouncing on water trampolines and swimming naked in g-strings. A few x-rated 3D films emerged in the 70s, but now with the resurgence of mainstream 3D films, porn companies have scrambled to infuse their product with this resurrected technology.

While The Virtual Reality Stimulator 3D may not be "exploding" with nymphets crawling off the screen and into your lap, the images are at least akin to watching a live sex scene through a window. The scenes have virtual depth but all the sweaty body parts and fluids remain behind the 4th wall. The quality isn't perfect but it rivals any 3D experience outside movie theaters, like Playboy's 2010 Playmate of the year centerfold, Hope Dworaczyk.

How real the film looks depends on a few factors. The bigger and sharper the screen, the livelier the experience. The longer you watch, allowing your eyes to relax and adjust, the easier you can process the images and slip into the virtual pleasure dome. The scenes with more visual depth also enhance the illusion, giving various body parts in the foreground more pop. Unfortunately a deep field of focus doesn't often coincide with sex scenes that rely on close ups and closed sets.

Like all porn, The Virtual Reality Stimulator may not offer the most realist presentation of sex, but the technology gives you a great excuse to watch porn with a friend. While many women may decline an invitation to view Ass Busters 6: Ram Rod's Revenge, many more would be curious to check out the visuals of a 3D porn. Aside from the obligatory money shots, the film has nothing that will make any woman with a passing knowledge of internet porn cringe. And for me, any adult film that can captivate a female audience is a success.

Bijan Ultra and Damon Magnum, created this film, and the production company Ultra-Magnum Creations, with the goal of making "3D adult movies emphasizing entertainment over novelty.” However, porn is by definition a novelty. Audiences want to glimpse what they may never see live in their bedrooms. And novelty is the one thing this film could use more of. The VR Stimulator isn't revolutionary when it comes to the sex, plot, setting, costumes, or acting. It is however revolutionary in terms of technology, and it should have utilized scenes that exploit this fact. Let's see giant, greasy boobs and asses flopping off the screen. Let's see gushing orgasms that make viewers duck. Let's see a giant dick or two fly across the screen, threatening to poke out and eye or cause a spurt of blindness.  3D technology caters well to point-of-view (POV) scenes in which actresses perform sex acts with the camera man. The film does feature one saucy fifteen minute POV blowjob with Rachel Roxxx, some female masturbation, and pole dancing by Capri Cavalli, but this may not be enough for audiences hungry for virtual simulation.

Virtual Reality Stimulator 3D definitely delivers the goods, just not in the proportions viewers might crave. But such is the paradox of adult entertainment: it always leaves you hungry for more.

Virtual Reality Stimulator 3D is set to be released Sept. 29, 2010 by Juicy Entertainment. See the X-rated trailer and order your copy at ultramagnum.com
