GINO'S RESTAURANT AND BAR 10006 N Armenia Ave., Tampa; 813-933-1089. ginosrestaurantbar.com

"A small Italian restaurant that has some succulent burgers with cheese that melts on top of juicy beef; fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on the side so you can decide how much you want on your burger. There is also a wide variety of Italian dishes to choose from and I have never been failed by the quality of their entrees. Prices are reasonable and the place gets quite a crowd." --Carlos Hernandez

GRILLE ONE SIXTEEN 15405 N Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa; 813-265-0116; grilleonesixteen.com

"Grille One Sixteen's food is surprisingly simple when placed in context with the surroundings, a big-city steakhouse menu with few surprises." "Steaks are all organic, prime and dry-aged. They come out right, with just enough salt to accent the crust and as-ordered rosy red marking the interiors. Although the rib eye is the preferred cut of any beef aficionado, here the lean filet has more than enough flavor to win over fans of heavy marbling." --Brian Ries

SAIGON DELI 3962 W Waters Ave., Tampa; 813-932-0300.

"Saigon Deli is a mecca for some of the best banh mi in the Bay area." "Each of the four meat choices offers a slightly different tweak on the formula. Meatballs are salty and luscious, with flavors both similar and very different from Western versions. The tender bundles of ground meat are studded with garlic and served with a burst of luscious fat thanks to a schmear of mayonnaise. The sandwich is never rich, though, thanks to the mediating influence of the pickled garnish and bright herbs." --Brian Ries

SUB PORT GIANT NEW JERSEY SUBS 14932 N Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa; 813-962-5958.

"Meat sliced to order, giant subs on fresh bread. The first time I went there, I asked if I could have mayo and mustard, and was told 'only if you want to ruin it'. They were right -- they dress the sandwiches simply with oil and vinegar, and that's all they need." --Patrice Knezevic
