The adage, "sex sells," is doubly true when it comes to condom ads. As men are the primary buyers, it's not surprising that many condom ads feature beautiful, nearly naked women in sexually suggestive positions. But sex alone isn't enough to sell rubbers as many believe prophylactics interfere with, as opposed to aid, the enjoyment of sex. To combat this negative association, many condom advertisers emphasize how their product can enhance sex: flavored condoms will make her want to go down on you, rubbers will help you last longer, or the condom is especially designed to drive her wild.
While I'm not aware of any companies that have successfully marketed small condoms, advertisers have a field day marketing large condoms. (There must be something about big dicks that
stimulates the creative juices). Unfortunately, this celebration of big dicks may do more harm than good, as men wih average sized dicks may purchase large condoms for the ego boost, and in so doing increase the risk of the condom slipping off or breaking. Others market their product based on the primary, though unsexy, function of condoms: to prevent unwanted offspring and STDs. Some of these ads utilize humor, while others spoil an otherwise sexy scene with a shocking image, like a woman performing oral sex on a gun.
However they work, condoms ads continue to be some of the most creative and memorable ads you're likely to see, provided they are not censored in your country. Please suggest others I may have missed in the comments section below.
Although the below ad is for lube, I thought it worthy of inclusions. It will take you a minute to figure out. I'm still not sure what exactly the object is supposed to be. A giant gnome?
