The Suncoast Surfrider Foundation builds a 'Wave of Plastic' to be unveiled at Jack Johnson's upcoming concert

The "Wave of Plastic", a six-foot edifice made up of plastic bottles picked up on Madeira Beach this past Saturday, was created by the Suncoast Surfrider Foundation to promote the discontinuance of single use plastics.
More importantly, the wave is going to be unveiled at the Jack Johnson concert on Wednesday, August 25th. At the event, volunteers will ask ever passerby to sign a pledge to discontinue their use of single use plastics on a blue sheet of paper. The result: create a blue wave of pledges and reduce the use of single use plastic.
The construction began this past Saturday as seen on NBC.
And be on the lookout: The chapter has been graced with the official Jack Johnson pre-party label to help promote the ban of single use plastics and offshore oil drilling, and to promote mass transportation.
If you would like to get involved, we could use the help! Contact Thomas through Suncoast@surfrider.org and offer your suggestions or aid. We are still looking for a venue (either Wednesday night Aug 25th or the weekend before), looking for sponsors to promote their eco-minded businesses to create a mini eco-village, and we also need help organizing the event.

“The projects effect goes well beyond surfers being upset it ruined a surf break. We believe a case can be made as to how the project permit is currently in violation of state codes and statutes – thus, the groins should be removed,” said Scott Orsini, Suncoast’s Vice Chair.
