Attorneys for former Hillsborough County Commissioner Brian Blair have sent a letter to St. Petersburg based political blogger Peter Schorsch, threatening to sue him after the blogger wrote recently about Blair's arrest last summer on child abuse charges on his blog,  St. Petersburg 2.0,.

Blair was arrested on Father's Day last year, and held overnight in a Hillsborough County jail, accused of engaging in a fight with his two sons.  But days later, the Hillsborough County State Attorney's office said they were dropping the charges.

Schorsch posted a blog entry on February 1, where he mocked the fact that the Fraternal Order of Police was announcing their endorsement of Blair in his current campaign for the GOP nomination for House District 47. This is part of what he wrote:

I imagine somewhere in the Fraternal Order of Police's mission statement it probably says something about the organization and its members being dedicated to, you know, keeping people safe. Especially children. Especially children from abusive parents. In fact, on its website, it states that the FOP's job is "to promote and foster the impartial enforcement of law and order."

It just makes sense: the police are the 'good guys' who arrest the 'bad guys' who hurt children.

What I doubt is that in that same mission statement there's anything about the Fraternal Order of Police endorsing political candidates who have been arrested for hitting their kids.

Schorsch added in that original post that Blair had contacted him :

Update: the Blair campaign sent me this e-mail: "The charges against Brian Blair were completely erroneous and dropped by the State Attorney and DCF. I would appreciate if you remove this slanderous blog as soon as possible." -- Brian Blair and Shannon K. Rose

But Schorsch never removed the offending blast, and now  Blair's attorneys are now threatening to sue him. But Schorsch obviously isn't intimidated.  His response?  A new blog he's just created, called Brian Blair is a Douche.

Scorsch has also posted the threatening letter in three different sections he's received from Blair's attorneys, Barker, Rodems & Cook, on the new blogsite.

Readers may recall that this is not the first time that Blair has been aggressive in using litigation, or the threat of litigation, when he feels he's been wronged.

Last May, seven months after he lost a bitter race for re-election against Kevin Beckner in 2008, Blair announced he was suing  Beckner, accusing him of  making  false and defamatory statements that exposed him to "hatred, contempt and ridicule.''

CL is attempting to contact Blair and/or his attorneys for comment.

In a brief conversation with Schorsch, the blogger says he's contacted the ACLU about possible representation if he is sued, but hasn't heard back from them yet.
