If I were asked to describe Black Violin, my response would be innovative, fun and like nothing you’ve ever heard. This talented trio fuses funk, hip-hop and classical music to create a sound and style that very nearly defies traditional genre categorization. Some might call it revolutionary.

Based out of South Florida, Black Violin consists of a hip-hop DJ, a violinist and a viola player who has named his instrument “Tiffany.” Together they mix classical music with hip-hop beats, and then toss in some rap and freestyle to keep it interesting. In a career that only spans a few years, Black Violin has managed to land work with an impressive and very diverse list of artists, including Alicia Keys, P. Diddy, Kanye West, Tom Petty, 50 Cent, The Eagles and Aerosmith, to name a few. Even if you’re a little skeptical, take my advice and give their music a listen. I promise that it’s like nothing you’ve ever heard.

The group will be performing a concert in Ruth Eckerd Hall’s Murray Studio Theater this Friday, December 18. But don’t reach for the phone just yet. The show's already sold out, but Public Relations Manager Katie Pedretty has assured me that we'd be seeing them again at Ruth Eckerd Hall in the near future.
