Indie-rock cover of "Do They Know It's Christmas" destroys remaining wall between irony and sincerity (with audio)

If you haven't heard the boisterous, feedback-laden cover of 1984's melodramatic, celebrity-stuffed hit single "Do They Know It's Christmas" yet, then you, my friend, are blowing it.

Spearheaded by perfectly-named Canadian loud-crazy-rock ensemble Fucked Up, the new version of the tune is simply, well ... it's marvelous, really. It features fellow Canadians Tegan & Sara and Broken Social Scene, along with a cast of hipster-beloved names like Vampire Weekend, David Cross, Yo La Tengo, GZA, Bob Mould, TV on the Radio, and that guy who likes to party, Andrew WK.

Like its predecessor, this one's all about the charity as well -- proceeds from its sale (you can snatch it at iTunes) benefit Canadian non-profits Justice for the Missing, D.T.E.S. Power of Women, and Sisters in Spirit, all outfits that deal with women's issues ranging from domestic abuse to aboriginal rights.
