Love tourists, not drilling: Stop near shore drilling off Florida's coast

Grass roots are growing along Tampa Bay beaches to halt off shore drilling. They “love tourists, not drilling”.
If you care about our beaches and wish to protect Florida’s coast from near shore drilling, please learn more about what is being planned for February 13, 2010.
Hands Across the Sand started in Destin when one citizen decided to take a stand and do what he could do to stop drilling off the coast of Florida. All kinds of coalitions are now coming together, such as 'Love Tourists, Not Drilling'. The next Tampa Bay planning is Wednesday, December 16th at Repower America.
Folks who care are coming together, finding others who feel the same way and educating themselves about the situation. Turns out that:
-Our Federal Government says there are small spills and leakage from drilling every year, and a major spill every 3-4 years. Pollution from drilling operations, shipping & pipeline ruptures are constant threats.
-The amount of oil believed to be in the eastern Gulf would supply power in the U.S. for six months or less. Our beaches, wetlands & intercoastal areas would be destroyed for decades.
-The global oil industry touts a possible $2-12 billion for Florida per year: after oil is found (if any), rigs are built and oil is flowing (in 10-20 years).
-The industry promises to bring jobs but must hire workers from other states and countries.
-Tourists bring the Florida economy $65 BILLION per year and jobs, jobs, jobs the reason we have no income tax
It’s $65 billion vs $2 billion: You make the call.
The plan is that this Tampa Bay coalition will find what works and then share it with other counties around the state. The group calls itself 'Love Tourists, Not Drilling' and meets every other Wednesday until February 13th at Repower America. They will be held at 146 2nd St. N, St. Pete. The next meeting is Wednesday, December16.
