Equality prevailed last Friday, as the Nevada State Board of Health agreed unanimously to amend the state's health codes in order for men to legally work as prostitutes (Las Vegas Sun). Previously, standards required that sex workers undergo a cervical STD test, which presented a clear problem for most men (If you don't know why you may want to Google "Where do babies come from?"). The health codes have now been changed to allow urethral exams, and gigolos across the country haven't stopped celebrating since.
For years people like Heidi Fleiss have talked about opening a brothel featuring men, but the change was finally spurred by Bobbi Davis, who wanted to include dudes on the menu at her Shady Lady Ranch. As with her current sex workers, her gigolos will get to decide for themselves who they are and aren't willing to sleep with, be it men, women, or Eliot Spitzer.
Long time lobbyist for the Nevada Brothel Owners Association, and former Assemblies of God Minister, George Flint, compared this change to the Pearl Harbor of the sex industry. Having long feared this day would come, he's concerned that male prostitutes will ruin the relatively clean record Nevada brothels have had with the transmission of HIV from prostitutes to clients--that is if any clients will actually pay to sleep with these men.
