Gossip Girl recap: happy endings never come easily

Posted by Bianca Rosen Siegel on Tue, Dec 8, 2009 at 11:10 AM

"Sinatra sings 'New York, New York, it's a hell of a town,' but on the Upper East Side, sometimes it just feels like hell. Even when we're sure we've earned that happy ending, it doesn't always come. Second thoughts creep in, secret missions sneak out and only Sleeping Beauty finds her prince. In this city nothing is for certain. The night can push you forward into a dark future or plunge you into a mysterious past." -- Gossip Girl

I would like to start this blog by saying how extremely upset I am that there will be no new episodes of Gossip Girl until March, WTF? What will I do with my Monday nights? Gossip Girl is my light at the end of the manic Monday tunnel, so I write this blog with great sadness and despair ... but enough about my drama: let's get to what our favorite Upper East Siders are up to.

Tripp and Serena are hot and heavy, and Tripp is madly in love with her ... so he says. But let's evaluate this situation: Tripp is married, a politician, and is like way older than her. WTF are you doing falling in love with an 18-year-old socialite? Sure you guys can fuck -- that's just political tradition. But really, LOVE, Tripp?

But let's pretend he really is in love with Serena, then please tell me why he left her unconscious in the car after the car accident

he got them in (because there were wolves in the middle of the road -- yes, three white wolves. Tripp, let me tell you something. When you and the woman you "love" get in a car accident and she has a huge gash in her head and is heavily bleeding and not responding, 1. You don't call your wife first to see what you should do, and 2. You really shouldn't move her to the driver's seat and leave the scene. because you know what happens when you do that. I'm pretty sure Serena isn't gonna wanna be with you anymore, so she's gonna hook up with your cousin, Nate, who came to the scene of the accident and stayed with her in the hospital.

Tonight was filled with tragedy. Not only did Serena get in her accident, but it was also the anniversary of Bart's death. And in true Chuck nature, he pretended he had no feelings and that all that was important was business. We saw the ghost of Bart in Chuck's life and how Chuck still feels he is disappointing his father and that he is not a good enough businessman, or a strong enough man.

Chuck had a flashback of the night his dad died when he went to the hospital to see Serena, and he had a breakdown. After all day of pretending to be the strong and tough Chuck Bass and he had pushed Blair away, he broke down and Blair was there to hold his hand, pick up the pieces and be who he needed her to be. I'm just so happy to see Blair and Chuck like this, instead of just last year when Chuck was on a rooftop and Blair was calling him back down and telling him she loved him with no reciprocation. Now they are happy and in love and all is right with the world.

Well all might be right in the world of Chuck and Blair, but Dan unfortunately has had no such luck -- especially after Nate kinda set him up on a date with Vanessa's friend Willa. She basically threw herself on top of him. Correction: she showed him an "art film" she was a part of where she might have been completely naked and having sex with some guy. I happen to think that's porn but I suppose to each his own, and after Dan watched this video she then proceeded to throw herself on top of him. But Dan is a man in love and did nothing more than make out with this girl before he was reminded of his love for Vanessa.

After Serena got in her car accident both Dan and Vanessa ended up at the hospital, and Dan tried to tell Vanessa he loved her ... and she just thought he meant as a friend, and that he was doing it because of the stressful situation. But she should know better -- they have been in love with each other for years, there has just always been something or someone in the way. Well listen Vanessa, you guys fucked, the feelings are true and you love him too -- so just tell him already.

Vanessa and Dan's love may be a little less than solid, but Lily and Rufus are madly in love and are going to be together forever ... or are they? Apparently Lily had a small discretion with her ex-husband, Serena's father, over the summer -- which is what the letter from Serena's dad told Serena. And of course, who ended up with this information? None other than the lovely Maureen, Tripp's very vindictive and smart wife, showed Rufus the letter that talks all about Lily's little affair. I suppose we will just have to wait to see how this turns out -- nothing is predictable in their relationship.

And last but certainly not least: Little J is selling drugs, really??? I'm sorry, correction, she's more of a drug princess, she hasn't reached drug queen status yet. She is our old friend the drug lord ambassador's sidekick now. What an interesting twist Little J, I think it might be time for a new nickname considering her new sketchy ways.

Well this week was epic, tragic, and a little sketchy but that's all we get for now from these Upper East Siders, Until March...

You know you love me,
