Obama's Afghan surge, big promotion for WMNF board member, and who's afraid of Sam Rashid? : Mitch Perry Report 12.01.09

Barack Obama announces his new strategy on Afghanistan tonight, and it seems like nobody is too thrilled with it. Republicans should be, but Dick Cheney simply doesn't like that it took so long; liberals are aghast;
Hillsborough Conuty Commissioners will have another vote tomorrow that would ultimately place a referendum before voters next November asking them to approve a one cent sales tax hike to fund light rail and other transportation projects. East Hillsborough Republican activist Sam Rashid is strongly advising his GOP friends to reject the proposal;
And WMNF board member Arlene Englehardt has been named to run Pacifica Radio, the progressive radio network that produces Democracy Now! and Free Speech Radio News;
I usually don't use this space to hype other links, but I'm making an exception this morning.
Check out the St. Petersblog Web site this morning on a city official reportedly sending out e-mails on behalf of Mayor Rick Baker to make him the next president of St. Petersburg College, and the internet is ablaze with rumors and thoughts about the whole Tiger Woods imbroglio. Personally, I don't think Woods needs to tell the insatiable for dirt public a thing, and haven't been convinced of any commentary why he should. John Romano's column in the St. Pete Times today lays it out perfectly.
