CL's Gay Wedding Planner: How to get married in Canada, Europe and more

Don't feel like getting married in one of the six U.S. states that allow same-sex marriages? Never fear! America isn't the only place same-sex couples can marry. Gay marriage is legal in seven other countries. However, six of those countries have strict residency requirements that make it difficult for non-citizens to obtain a marriage license. But O, Canada! On July 20, 2005, the Canadian Parliament approved a law allowing same-sex couples to marry and there is no residency requirement! Good news, eh? So, Americans, if you want a change of scenery, look to our Northern neighbors. Find the info you need after the break on Canada and other countries' same-sex marriage rules and regs. CANADA
Requirements: To marry in Canada, you need a license, an authorized person to perform the ceremony and TWO witnesses. The license and ceremony processes differ depending on the region and whether or not the ceremony is civil or religious. If you are already married you must get divorced before entering another marriage in Canada. If you marry in Canada, your marriage will be recognized in Massachusetts, Iowa, Connecticut and New York. Other states vary and so does the respect you will receive from the government. Getting married in Canada does NOT allow you to sponsor your spouse for U.S. citizenship.

I am James Strongman, from London England. I am writing to get information on wedding/reception venues and also in need of the services of a wedding planner. Irene and I are planning to have a wedding in August 2009 and will require more information on this as we plan also to have the wedding in your region. We are looking for a venue and planner to help us plan our wedding/reception. 40 to 50 guests are expected to attend. Please advice on weather conditions and the possibilities of rain.
